The Alfredo Salazar Residences, our firm’s fourth apartment building in Lima, Peru, is located at a prominent intersection in the San Isidro neighborhood. Behind a garden wall, a Portuguese limestone base supports distinctive striated gray brick facades punctuated by deep-set limestone-trimmed windows. The main entry opens to a lobby with marble floors, oak paneling, and a groin-vaulted ceiling. The building’s garden courtyard connects the lobby to Pius XII Park. The garden is formed by green walls and deep, arcuated loggias. Commemorating a new milestone for 1 Mayfair, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony for this ambitious residential development in a historic neighborhood of London. RAMSA Partner Daniel Lobitz observes: “The design of 1 Mayfair has adapted Mayfair’s architectural traditions for the way people live today. The exterior façades reinterpret Georgian architectural precedents with finely carved Portland stone cladding, handcrafted metalwork and large timber windows that maximize views and natural light. Internal spaces draw inspiration from the classical layouts of historic English houses. Because 1 Mayfair occupies a large city block site, we were able to create a building with a complex footprint, designed around a central garden, with large floor plates that afford the residences generously sized principal rooms.” Led by Lobitz, our 1 Mayfair team of Gaylin M. Bowie, NOMA and Michael R. McGrattan, AIA was pleased to join leaders from Caudwell, Mace, and PJ Carey for the occasion.
