  • We're coming up on year-end, which means it's a good time to take stock of where you are financially this year compared to last year. We put together a full, interactive checklist to help make the process painless. A few key points? ➡️ Has you income changed in the past year / do you expect it to change next year? ➡️ Did you make any big purchases—cars, homes, fine jewelry? ➡️ How many months of living expenses does your emergency fund cover? The checklist can help you spot any potential problems before they occur, and can help your financial advisor know if they need to make any adjustments to your plan. Plus, it can be helpful to see you're on track heading into the holidays. https://lnkd.in/g3zJQKyx

  • Are you turning 65 in the next few years? Now's a good time to get familiar with Medicare. Even if you aren't ready to start thinking about it... we can almost guarantee various healthcare providers, including insurance carriers who participate in Medicare Advantage or Medigap plans, will start to reach out to you. It can be easy to get roped into improper coverage if you don't understand the lay of the land. We put together an article that can help you understand the program, but we also talked to our friends at Move Health about how to spot scams and other hidden money traps before you turn 65. https://lnkd.in/gA_H9HCC

  • 🔥 Let's talk FIRE 🔥 🔥 The FIRE movement—financial independence, early retirement—has been gaining traction of late. But most of the people we meet who are looking to retire before 65 don't necessarily consider themselves FIRE. Instead, this group of people tends to be concerned with two things: 1️⃣ Making sure their money will last through all of the twists and turns of a much longer retirement. 2️⃣ How they'll pay for healthcare between now and Medicare, particularly with healthcare costs increasing so significantly each year. Not surprisingly, the answer to question 2 can have a big impact on the answer to question 1. Let's get into your options for health insurance if you decide to retire before 65. Once you have a handle on your choices, and what they'll cost, an advisor can help you walk through various scenarios and projections to help you better answer that number 1️⃣ question. https://lnkd.in/gyh99K3g

  • If you've ever had to take care of an elderly parent, you know navigating their Medicare benefits (including whether they have a Plan G Medicare supplement or not) isn't for the faint of heart. But most of us don't bother digging into Medicare until it's our turn to qualify. We thought now was a good time to change that. Whether you need to decode your parents EoBs or plan for your own future, we asked the experts at Move Health to break it down for us. https://lnkd.in/gQ4CSxMR Move Health

  • Healthcare is one of the biggest—and completely unpredictable—costs in retirement. Do you know how you'll pay for your care? 🩺 Do you know what Medicare does and doesn't cover? 🩺 What about the difference between original Medicare and Medicare Advantage? 🩺 Medigap policies can save you *big time* but *WHEN* you sign up matters. Sound confusing? There's a lot of moving parts, but it doesn't have to overwhelm you. Not only did we put together an article explaining the key points of Medicare, we also tapped a health insurance expert to go over everything from frequently asked questions to how to think about your future healthcare budget. https://lnkd.in/gqHX8Jdy

  • Thinking you might retire early? 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Before you officially quit your job or start transitioning to FUNemployment, take a moment to think about what you'll do for health insurance in the window between employer-sponsored coverage and Medicare. Good planning can make all the difference, from your quality of life to ensuring your nest egg can last 40+ years. https://lnkd.in/gAGiREzt

  • November tends to feel like health insurance awareness month. 🗓️ Open enrollment for healthcare exchanges. 🗓️ Open enrollment for Medicare. Some companies even hold open enrollment for their benefit plans in November just to sync with the government's schedule. When's the last time you took a step back and looked at your health insurance, including how it fits into your overall financial plan? Our article on Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) walks through some of those considerations, and is a great article to jump start conversation about whether you need to adjust your coverage. https://lnkd.in/gF5Dww-R

  • At the end of the year, finance types LOVE to talk about Roth conversions. Why? They need to be done prior to December 31. (This is different from contributions to a traditional IRA which can be made until the April 15 filing deadline.) But Roth conversions can come with a significant tax bill, so it's important to know a few things before you get swept up in the hype: 💫 The benefits of a Roth account / why you'd want to do a Roth conversion in the first place. 💫 Circumstances when a Roth conversion makes the most sense. 💫 Logistics if you decide to do a conversion this year. https://lnkd.in/gydZyFT2
