Construction crews are working super hard at our Operational Training Center (OTC)! The facility, set to open next fall, will be where PSE field workers and emergency first responders can get hands-on training as we continue developing the skills necessary for a safe and reliable clean energy transition. PSE is signing on to the largest stake in North Plains Connector, a 420-mile, major transmission line project that creates a critical link connecting PSE and its customers to new markets and enhances the reliability and efficiency of the regional energy grid. The project will advance the integration of renewable energy sources, reducing congestion on the grid.

At PSE, crews work year-round to maintain, upgrade and modernize the electric grid. We recently concluded a critical transmission line project near Cle Elum, with support from Potelco Inc. Crews replaced or repaired 22 major structures along 60 miles of high-voltage transmission lines, through challenging mountainous terrain.

Recently, on Edison Electric Institute’s Electric Perspectives Podcast, our own Aaron August had the pleasure of joining Brian Reil to talk about what he calls Energy Orchestration and its vital role in the clean energy transition here in Washington. As we work to meet our state’s climate goals, harmonizing devices like EVs, batteries, and smart thermostats, and leveraging consumer demand response programs will reduce peak demand and strengthen grid resilience, which are integral steps in keeping the lights on and customer bills low. With all the promise that AI holds for the future, there are also a slew of challenges that we need to overcome. Josh Jacobs, PSE’s VP of Clean Energy Strategy, spoke on a panel at the Technology Alliance Policy Conference this week, on the importance of partnerships between utilities and technology companies on innovative load management strategies, as well as the development of new, clean energy technologies that can meet the growing energy needs of our customers. Utilities like PSE have to thread the needle on meeting clean energy mandates, keeping the lights on, and working to keep bills as low as possible for our customers.
