Women’s health hasn’t always received the focus it deserves—but that’s changing.   Since attending the White House Conference on Women’s Health Research, I’ve been thinking a lot about women’s health. For so long, women felt the need to whisper their concerns, feeling stigma or shame about their health issues. Misconceptions around conditions like endometriosis, menopause, or autoimmune disease have gone unchallenged for too long.   This is what made my visit to the White House so special. This conference united researchers, innovators, and leaders to not only change the conversation around women’s health but advance it by addressing gaps in care.   Here’s what you need to know about this pivotal moment in women’s health and the work ahead: https://lnkd.in/gcZDjsdM

Some days are just special. Today, I had the incredible opportunity to join researchers, founders, and funders at the White House Conference on Women’s Health Research. It was an inspiring group of people tackling issues that, in the past, were barely spoken about. Time to change that. Sponsored by Dr. Jill Biden and inspired by Maria Shriver, the women’s health initiative focuses on conditions that are unique to women (e.g., endometriosis, menopause), affect women differently (e.g., heart disease), or disproportionately (e.g., Alzheimer’s). A few standout examples from the speakers: Dr. Marlena Fejzo, geneticist, who, after being dismissed as being overly dramatic with severe pregnancy-related nausea, discovered a biomarker for hyperemesis gravídum. Joanna Strober , entrepreneur, who founded MidiClinic after struggling for months with insomnia and brain fog, finally being helped when menopause was diagnosed. She’s created on-demand care to help women navigate complex mid-life health needs. Dr. Joyti Gupta of GE Health, leveraging AI and machine learning to uncover new insights in existing data, such as identifying arterial calcifications on mammograms as a marker for cardiovascular disease. And the list goes on—from groundbreaking research on exercise during pregnancy, to innovative care delivery models for autoimmune diseases, to non-invasive endometriosis diagnoses and effective treatments. There’s so much still to uncover and improve in care for half the human population. What’s exciting is that these innovations aren’t just drawing attention—they’re attracting investment. Venture capital and private equity firms are recognizing the vast market potential, and the sector is just beginning to take off. There’s tremendous opportunity ahead, and the work being done gives me hope. We’re fortunate to have a dedicated, skilled, and savvy group of visionaries driving progress. With the momentum I saw today at the White House, I’m confident the future of women’s health looks brighter than ever. #WomensHealth #Innovation #Research #Healthcare #AI #Endometriosis #Menopause #HeartDisease #Alzheimers #VC #PE #WomenInHealth Press Ganey Milken Institute Swizzle Ventures Eliza Lo Chin, MD, MPH Sandra Andrews
