Have you noticed how we tend to spotlight the same people in conversations on liberation and abolition? It’s not that these thinkers or authors don’t deserve to be there—their work has shaped movements, gifted us knowledge and vocabulary. But we’ve also fallen into a habit of centering those with the biggest platforms, and those who are already well known. Meanwhile, grassroots activists, artists, and culture workers—those who also labor everyday for liberation—are often overlooked. In 2025, Liberation Maasi’s will be a space to amplify these voices. We want to re-focus on people around the world who may not have large social followings, but carry so much wisdom. For only $10-$15 per month, here's what you can look forward to between January and March 2025: 🔹 "A Flaming Forest" is a documentary on Adivasi resistance, lifeways, and protection of the BRT Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. We will watch the film together and engage in conversation around land defence and anything else that emerges. 🔹 "What Does A Liberated Body Feel Like?" is a movement practice with artist, Alyssa Amarshi 🔹 "Anti-carceral Alternatives to Punishment" will be our January Chai Chat discussion topic. 🔹 In "Ancestral Seed Saving and Future Worldbuilding", artist and Herbalist, Alisha Lettman, will offer a practice session on the ecological imperatives of seed saving and medicine making. 🔹 "Re-writing the Resilience Narrative" will be our February Chai Chat discussion topic. 🔹 In "Marginal Attempts of Liberation", Failure Ecologist, Ishaan Aggarwal, will share stories, observations and learnings from grassroots movements and local collectives in India. 🔹 "Aligning (rituals) with Earth-timing" will be our March Chai Chat discussion topic. Liberation Maasi's is a community space dedicated to collective healing, joy, and worldbuilding. Through regular gatherings and exclusive content, we create opportunities to engage with liberation as an active practice, and to learn from/with each other and our community. Here's how you can join us: bit.ly/LiberationMaasis Please feel free to share it with anyone in your network who might be interested in joining our community!

We're celebrating Hajar Tazi's one-year anniversary on the board of the Post Growth Institute (PGI)! 🎉 Hajar brings multifaceted talents as an ecosystem #weaver and #storyteller to our organization, serving the cause of planetary flourishing with profound dedication. Her passion for alternative economies, indigenous #cosmovisions, and commitment to grassroots socio-technological #innovation has inspired new ways of thinking and being at PGI. Crystal Arnold, our Director of Hospitality, shares, “Hajar is a visionary leader whose reverence for life infuses everything she does. She skillfully weaves connections across diverse initiatives, including through the Offers and Needs Market. She creates spaces where transformative ideas take root and bloom.” While pursuing her MS in Sustainable Development at the University of Sussex, Hajar developed a deep appreciation for eco-spirituality, biomimicry, and regenerative villages. She currently serves as the Synergia Institute’s Director of Ecosystem Weaving, and as a Board Member at Gaia Education and Shareable. She is also an Ambassador of Kincentric Leadership and the Inner Development Goals. Beyond her work, Hajar’s passions include #surfing, stargazing, and #writing #poetry. Her holistic approach and unwavering commitment to unlearning hegemonic ways of being continue to leave an indelible mark on PGI and the broader #postgrowth movement. "Harmony in this context is not about uniformity. The true transformative potential of #harmony can be realized by embracing the tensions inherent in #plurality." Man Fang, Post Growth Fellow, explores how #Chinese #philosophy can complement current approaches to rethinking progress. This past weekend's Offers and Needs Market at Tea at Shiloh was a glimpse into a different type of market, centering relationship-building over transactions. We built community and exchanged offerings within a truly effervescent winter apothecary marketplace. Thanks to Crystal Arnold and all at Post Growth Institute for stewarding this facilitation practice. I'm grateful to have participated in the recent advanced facilitator cohort. It was also so cool to practice this mutual aid strategy in such a beautiful space. Special shout out to my co-facilitator, Nicole Fleck for making it possible! Together, we can practice the new economy we wish to see. :)

An exciting and interesting free summit happening next week!!! They have people from around the world (14 countries) discussing how we could move forward with #repairing the economy! "Degrowth: repairing the economy" --> In the plenary session at the end of the first day, I will share some insights that might help contextualise this movement within #degrowth transitions. I'm personally honoured to be part of this event, as I spoke at it five years ago, and I look forward to sharing the evolution of my work, thinking and Brisbane Tool Library advancement. This time, my talk won't focus on the tool library as there are a lot of other amazing repair event organizers, tool librarians, makerspace leads, creative reuse enthusiasts, repair and reuse business owners, solid waste nerds, educators, circular economy advocates, and the waste-reducing changemakers already. To check the plan: https://lnkd.in/gCGBrxrG To register for the Zoom link: https://lnkd.in/gZK2Q3uU --> Australia: even if most sessions are at night/early morning (for us), you can register anyway to maybe receive the recording later on. Thanks for all your work over the years Kami Bruner, Amanda Miller and to all of your changemakers collegues!
