The Wuxi Symphony Hall Complex has landed the cover of Auditoria magazine’s 2025 Annual Showcase! Located outside of Shanghai in Wuxi, China, the stunning complex, which has taken the moon as a metaphor, will feature a vineyard-style 1,500-seat #symphonyhall and a four-story art exchange building that will house a 200-seat performance venue, as well as jazz and comedy clubs, street-level storefronts, dining terraces, and live/work studios for visiting artists. There will also be a riverwalk #amphitheater that will serve as both public park and performance space, with seating for several hundred, and a grand piazza that will knit it all together. Perkins Eastman Principal Alberto Cavallero shares his insights on the grand-scale project: “This cultural institution—not just the two buildings, but also all the public space within and around it—is a social and financial engine for a new district in the city,” he says. “Many Chinese cities are competing for people to move to these fabulous new places, so it’s important that it’s a cultural destination.” Read the story on pages 14 to 19 here: https://lnkd.in/epizfi-x, and learn more about the Wuxi Symphony Hall on our website: https://lnkd.in/eXpneBBR Renderings Courtesy of Perkins Eastman #PerkinsEastman #HumanByDesign #WuxiSymphonyHallComplex #CulturalArts #Cultural #Design #Architecture

We loved hosting the Harvard Business School Club of New York’s event with Eric Fang and Griffin Smith in our New York studio. Check out photos from the event. #PerkinsEastman #HumanByDesign #ClimateChange #Resiliency
Many thanks to Ron Randall, MBA 1966, for organizing our November 21st event on The Challenging Realities of Climate Change. A great crowd including graduates from MIT and Sloan gathered at Perkins Eastman Architects to hear a detailed presentation about the facts behind the issues involved. Thank you to Eric Fang (Principal at Perkins Eastman) and Griffin Smith (Behavioral Science Director at Ogilvy) for sharing their expertise regarding climate adaptation initiatives in our area, the development of crucial communications strategies, and for debunking popular quick fixes. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to chat with the speakers directly - including the legendary architect Brad Perkins - and ask questions after the presentation. We have more exciting events on the way as we close out 2024. Register today: https://bit.ly/3r3dQYQ #hbs #HBSAlumni #HBSClubNY #ClimateChange

Community colleges are more attractive than ever—by design and reputation, as we share in our latest #Insights article. A true labor of love, our teams design and develop strategic plans, renovation, reuse, and new building projects that honor these institutions’ standing in their communities, strengthen their ties to area universities and employers, and welcome the broadly diverse population of their students. “We are saying with our actions that, like four-year universities, #communitycolleges also deserve architecture with a big ‘A,’ because the work they are doing is very impactful indeed,” says Omar Calderon, AIA, principal at Perkins Eastman. Our Sustainability team had a great time at Greenbuild International Conference & Expo 2024, the #1 green building event for sustainability professionals. Held in Philadelphia this year, the conference is specifically designed to keep participants at the forefront of the industry covering #sustainability, #resilience, #health, and #wellness in the spaces where we live, work, learn, and play. Ryan Dirks, AIA, LEED AP, CPHC presented on a panel titled “The Carbon, The Whole Carbon, and Nothing But the Carbon,” where he shared his insights on the relationship between #embodiedcarbon and #operationalcarbon over the lifespan of a building. Afterwards, our Philadelphia studio hosted a happy hour for conference attendees, where our PE Green Coordinators shared project showcases from their studios and PEople from our Philly studio showed off their designs for a sketch of the month competition. Several of our #PEople attended the conference this year, including Koray Aysin, Mwanzaa Brown, Ryan Dirks, AIA, LEED AP, CPHC, Anjali Gopalakrishnan,LEED Green Associate, Assoc. AIA, Juan Guarin, Varsha Iyengar, AIA, Heather Jauregui, Kyle Kernozek, Barry McIntyre, Ana Cristina Muñoz de la Torre, Widya A Ramadhani, PhD., EDAC, Anthony Stark, Xoey Teixeira, LEED Green Associate, Claire Turvill, Jordana Viuker Brennan, and Christine M. As the week of #VeteransDay comes to a close, WGN-TV gives a nice shout-out to our Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy. Designed by Perkins Eastman for the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, the 251,000 sf, 210-unit long-term care environment in Quincy, IL, features a resident-focused design that promotes independence, wellbeing, and connection among the #veterans. “It’s statistically shown that veterans who live in a veterans home will live twice as long as they would in a typical nursing home because of the love, care, and support,” says Terry Prince, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs. The Fifth Avenue Hotel is a winner! At an awards ceremony at NYC’s Cipriani earlier this week, Boutique Design | BDNY announced the winners of its 44th Annual #GoldKeyAwards for Excellence in Hospitality Design, where they shared The Fifth Avenue Hotel had won first place in the “Hotel Luxury” category. Shawn Basler, AIA, co-CEO and executive director of Perkins Eastman, celebrated the news at the ceremony with Alexander Ohebshalom, Angela Lo, and David Ridoutt, as well as Andrew Deibel of MBDS and others. As hotel design architect, Perkins Eastman gave new life to a historic building by meticulously renovating and transforming a bank, originally designed by McKim, Mead & White, into a luxurious gem of a #hotel on 28th Street and Fifth Avenue. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS) served as the interior designer, and we worked with PBDW Architects on the 24-story modern landmark tower that complements the hotel. A vaulted two-story space in the re-adapted bank includes a signature restaurant, Café Carmellini. “The Mansion,” as it is known, also features lounges, a ballroom, and hotel amenities, and spacious private suites overlooking Fifth Avenue. Guest rooms spread throughout both buildings provide a relaxing atmosphere in the hustle and bustle of the city. Thoughtfully designed with attention and care, The Fifth is a luxury #boutiquehotel in the heart of New York City like no other.
