About us

The only multidisciplinary museum of its kind in the nation, the Peoria Riverfront Museum uses art, science, history, and achievement to inspire confidence, lifelong learning and talent. Since opening in 2012, the privately funded museum has provided nearly one million experiences through major exhibitions, a permanent collection, interactive galleries, a dome planetarium, giant screen theater, and educational programming including curricula-related experiences for all students. The AAM-accredited, Smithsonian-affiliated nonprofit museum is supported by more than 4,000 members and donors. The private museum is housed in a county-owned LEED Gold-certified building on a campus overlooking the Illinois River.

  • Tonight, the Peoria Riverfront Museum premiered a documentary on one of the best-known pieces in the museum's permanent collection: Preston Jackson's "Bronzeville to Harlem: An American Story." This documentary tells the story of local artist Preston Jackson's thirty-year process in creating this massive installation, which boasts over 100 bronze figures. In addition, it explores the story of the Great Migration and Black Renaissance, from Bronzeville, Chicago to Harlem, New York. Supported by board member Brian Ray and PNC, this documentary was directed by documentarian Diana Quiñones Rivera, and will continue on to play Tuesday - Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Giant Screen Theater, the largest Film Society Screen in the nation. See "Bronzeville to Harlem: An American Story" the exhibition, and the documentary, only at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
