How is 2025 treating you so far? If you haven't already set any business goals for the year, why not start by focusing on making your business as secure as possible? Not that I want to start the year on a downer, but cyber criminals had a busy 2024. Phishing attacks surged by 28% in the second quarter alone. Phishing is where attackers trick you into revealing sensitive information or clicking malicious links, often by pretending to be someone you are likely to trust. The way it works is quite straightforward, but the tactics are getting smarter... and more dangerous. For instance, last year we saw the rise of AI-powered phishing and multi-channel attacks (through email, SMS, and even collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams). Scammers also started using more advanced strategies, like embedding malicious scripts in email attachments. These methods helped attackers get past traditional security systems, leaving businesses overwhelmed. Larger businesses faced an average of 36 phishing emails every day. Scary, right? The bottom line is this: Cyber criminals are becoming more innovative, and businesses need to do the same. In 2025, let's prioritize cyber security. Start with stronger defenses, make sure your team is given regular training, and stay cautious with the emails and calls you receive. If you'd like help with cyber security training or need advice on how to protect your business, get in touch. #2025 #CyberSecurity #Phishing #PCGIT https://hubs.li/Q030YTzn0

Security Alert – Remove Unused Credentials from Your Network ❗❗ When an employee leaves, it's easy to forget about their login credentials, passwords, and access to your network. But did you know that unused accounts and credentials can pose a significant security risk to your business? Over 50% of small businesses have these lingering, unmonitored accounts, making them prime targets for cybercriminals. Don't let forgotten accounts compromise your systems and data security! What can you do? ✔️Regularly audit your accounts and deactivate unused ones. ✔️Implement Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to enhance account security. ✔️Create a checklist for employee offboarding to remove all access before they leave. ✔️Work with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to assess and safeguard your network. Don’t let unused credentials put your business at risk. PCGiT is here to help! Let us perform a security review today and ensure your network is secure. Happy New Year from PCGiT! 🎆 #CyberSecurity #NetworkSecurity #MFA #DataProtection #SecureYourBusiness #StaySafeOnline #HappyNewYear #PCGiT https://hubs.li/Q0310J780

Beware of Ransomware Scams Posing as IT Support ! Scammers are increasingly posing as Microsoft Teams support to gain access to your devices. They flood employees' inboxes with spam, then call or message via Teams pretending to offer help. Once they gain access, they can steal data, deploy ransomware, and disrupt business operations. To protect your business: ✔️Educate employees about the scam and verify any unsolicited support calls or chats. ✔️Secure Microsoft Teams by limiting external chats to trusted domains and enabling chat logging. ✔️Contact your IT department before allowing access or installing software. ✔️Need extra help securing your systems? Microsoft recently removed several widgets from the Microsoft Store, including Calendar and To Do. In some regions, the Photos, Microsoft 365 Feed, and Family widgets have also been temporarily taken down. Microsoft are doing this so they can improve the Windows 11 widgets board, with the intention of making widgets more useful and user-friendly. Widgets can be powerful tools for businesses. They bring essential information - like calendars, tasks, and key updates - right to your desktop. And they're handy for quickly checking the important stuff without having to switch between apps. While these widgets are unavailable, Microsoft are encouraging people to explore other options in the Store. If you rely on widgets for your daily tasks, keep an eye out for their return. Do you and your team use widgets? #Microsoft #Widgets #ProductivityTools #PCGIT https://hubs.li/Q030SK2y0

Using WordPress for your business's website? Listen up! A major flaw has been discovered in a popular WordPress plugin called Really Simple Security (formerly Really Simple SSL), which could let cyber criminals take full control of your website. Let's break this down. WordPress is a platform that powers millions of websites. It's popular with businesses, because it's easy to use and customizable. Plugins are add-ons that extend your site's functionality - think adding a contact form or extra security features. Really Simple Security is a plugin that's designed to protect websites, offering tools like login protection and two-factor authentication (2FA). So, what's the issue? A vulnerability in this plugin's 2FA feature allows scammers to get around the authentication process. This could give them admin access to your site. Which could lead to a massive security breach, like your site being taken over or sensitive business data being stolen. Thankfully, the plugin developer has released a fix (version 9.1.2), and WordPress is pushing updates. Many websites still run older versions though, and that leaves them exposed. If you use the Really Simple Security plugin on your website, please make sure you're running the latest version immediately. While we're on the subject, when did you last check all your apps and systems? If you need help making sure everything's up to date, get in touch. #UpdateTime #WordPress #SecurityAlert #PCGIT https://hubs.li/Q030JbrX0
