Here’s a recap of today’s sessions: 1️⃣ Journalism and Information in the Age of Artificial Intelligence Led by Phillip Ayazika this session explored how AI is reshaping journalism, from information gathering to storytelling, and what it means for accuracy, speed, and integrity in reporting. 2️⃣ Gender and Representation in AI-Driven Journalism Also facilitated by Phillip Ayazika this session addressed the critical issue of gender representation in AI-powered journalism. Thought-provoking discussions focused on how to eliminate biases and ensure inclusivity in AI systems shaping news narratives. 3️⃣ Building Sustainable AI for African Journalism Mayowa Ogunrinola delivered an insightful session on developing sustainable AI solutions tailored to African journalism. He highlighted the importance of aligning technology with local needs and fostering innovation to strengthen journalism across the continent. It’s been inspiring to connect with participants from across Africa as we explore the theme: “Data Journalism: Striking the Balance Between Automation and Human Oversight.” Here’s what we explored today: 1️⃣ Introduction We started with the basics—understanding AI, bias, journalism, and how regulations are shaping this rapidly evolving field. This session was expertly handled by Kingsley Owadara , who set the stage for meaningful discussions. 2️⃣ Journalism and Content Lifecycle This session unpacked how AI is transforming the way we create, manage, and distribute content. @Chiamaka okafor led an engaging discussion, highlighting how journalists are adapting to these changes. 3️⃣ AI in Journalism We explored real-life tools and technologies driving innovation in journalism—how AI is helping journalists analyze data, write stories, and connect with audiences in new ways. Rethabile Tsephe guided this insightful session. 4️⃣ Fairness and Bias This was a deep conversation on AI bias and the importance of fairness in journalism. Lois Moses provided thought-provoking perspectives, reminding us of the need for ethical AI adoption. 5️⃣ Regulations We wrapped up with a discussion on policies and regulations, focusing on how to protect the integrity of journalism while embracing AI innovation. Kingsley Owadara returned to close the day with this critical session. The energy, ideas, and engagement from everyone today were truly remarkable.
