Today, on the longest night of the year, we recognize National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day—a reminder of all the lives tragically lost to this crisis. Every life has purpose, value, and should never be forgotten. #HomelessMemorial #HPMD

Even though housing is a foundational piece of infrastructure, it’s often considered separate from basic resources like highways, bridges, and public utilities. This classification isn’t only inaccurate, it’s detrimental to building a successful and equitable country where everyone has a safe, stable place to live. Recognizing the importance of housing as part of our social fabric and investing in building more attainable options is more important now than ever. Click through to learn more about how housing is infrastructure on the Pallet blog.

Wonderful to see this Santa Fe New Mexican article showing how one person’s efforts can make all the difference in supporting and uplifting our unhoused neighbors. It took perseverance and dedication for Allyson to bring a Pallet shelter village to her community. Despite her own health challenges, she was determined to do whatever it took to create safe, individual spaces with onsite support to help residents stabilize and work toward finding permanent housing. "I think that as human beings, we have a responsibility to care for each other," she said. Click through to read this fantastic profile and learn more about the key role Allyson played in opening Christ Lutheran’s shelter community.

Starting Pallet’s Career Launch PAD (Program for Apprenticeship Development) was daunting at first for Tonya. But as we’ve quickly learned, she’s never afraid to rise to the challenge. Even though working in the trades was completely new and unfamiliar to her, Tonya was ready to invest in her future. “I thought it was a great opportunity to broaden my horizons when it comes to working and figuring my life out,” she says. “So I suited up, I showed up, I tried it out, and now here I am.” Follow the link below to learn about Tonya’s story and the tremendous strides she’s already taken since joining the Pallet team. Stay tuned as we follow our featured Career Launch PAD employees as they progress in the program and share their visions for the future after graduation. https://lnkd.in/gZZ_x64T

As cold weather sets in across the country, it’s important to acknowledge how harsh weather impacts our unhoused neighbors. While short-term exposure to bitter cold conditions can be inconvenient and uncomfortable, freezing temperatures are life-threatening for those without access to a warm and safe place to sleep. We are proud to share these encouraging updates and success stories from the Tampa HOPE village run by Catholic Charities. Having a locking door not only provides an extra level of safety and security for residents at the site, but also has improved health outcomes by helping people get out of the elements. With onsite services and a space of their own, these residents have the support to stabilize and then transition to permanent housing. “This is something where they can take ownership of it, and it gives them something to put in their tool belt moving forward,” says Tampa HOPE director Eric Marrero. Given the positive impact of the site’s Pallet shelters, they plan to add another 90 units in 2025. Read the full article on WUSF to learn more.
