Religious Institutions
The Order of Malta is a lay Catholic Religious Order devoted to the exercise of Christian virtue and charity.
About us
The Order of St. John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. Present in Palestine in around 1050, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature. Its 13,500 members include Professed Friars and others who have made the promise of obedience. The other Knights and Dames are lay members, devoted to the exercise of Christian virtue and charity. What distinguishes the Knights and Dames of Malta is their commitment to reaching their spiritual perfection within the Church and to expending their energies serving the poor and the sick. The Order of Malta remains true to its inspiring principles, summarized in the motto “Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum”, nurturing, witnessing and protecting the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering, which become reality through the voluntary work carried out by Dames and Knights in humanitarian assistance and medical and social activities. Today the Order carries out these activities in over 120 countries. In 1113 Pope Paschal II formally recognized the Order of Malta, which then was known as the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and placed it under the protection of the Holy See. The Order also is an independent sovereign subject of international law.

The Order of Malta Connecticut-Southwest celebrated the Epiphany this past weekend with over 350 parishioners at St. Peter Church in Bridgeport. The festivities began with a beautiful Mass and a heartwarming procession featuring the three Kings along with fantastic music from the children's choir. Following Mass, families enjoyed a delightful reception with King Cake, juice and water, fostering a spirit of togetherness and celebration. Gifts and toys were handed out to each of the children, thanks to our efforts of collecting toys in December, along with a beautiful photo for each child taken with the Three Kings. May the Epiphany bring us the wisdom of the wise men, the inner child of baby Jesus and the light of God to lead our way! #calledtoserve #orderofmalta #fairfieldcountycatholic #ctcatholic #maltact

The festive atmosphere was enhanced by beautifully decorated tables and Christmas decor that made the cafeteria sparkle with Christmas spirit. But thats not all! The Young Families at St. Mary Parish crafted thoughtful goody bags filled with $5 Dunkin gift cards, chapstick, and delightful treats, ensuring that everyone left with a little something special. This feast day honors Jesus, the Blessed Mother, and St. Joseph as the holiest of families, and therefore a model for all Christians families. They were holy because they placed God at the center of their family life, they loved and sacrificed for one another, and they radiated that love to others in the redemptive mission of the Word Incarnate. - EWTN

On Thursday, December 19th, Malta volunteers got together with the women at PEHT for their Quarterly Milestone Celebration, but this one had a Christmas twist! The team came with gifts to share, sandwiches, soda, Christmas cookies and beautiful decorations to make the event extra special. The milestones that these amazing ladies are not only meeting but surpassing is a powerful testament to the success of the PEHT program. It was a day of emotion and joy, best described by a quote from one of the survivors, "you guys are making me cry!" This photo is of some of the women who have already completed the PEHT residential program and now work in the Social Enterprise the PEHT Shop and have given their permission to be photographed. #calledtoserve #orderofmalta #fairfieldcountycatholic #ctcatholic #maltact
