What a year! This year brought us many incredible adventures that we have highlighted in this snapshot. Thank you to all our fellows, affiliates, board members, and community members, without whom our mission to create pathways that enable a peaceful, cooperative lunar presence would not be possible. We are excited to continue our work in the new year, with 3 priorities that have emerged from our Ideas to Hunches process - keep an eye out for more details. Happy holidays from the Open Lunar team!

Open Lunar is proud to support the growth of the Lunar Policy Platform (LPP), led by Dr Antonino Salmeri, alongside Samuel Jardine and Kevin O'Connell! November saw the LPP launch its Policy Snapshot, which provides an overview of key trends and developments within the lunar community, and the potential policy implications these could have. LPP director, Antonino Salmeri, debuted the snapshot at the World Space Forum in Bonn this month. Check it out on their website: https://lnkd.in/eSrNpaXe Follow them at Lunar Policy Platform to get updates on expert advisory on lunar policies!

That’s a wrap on the 2024 UN Conference on Space Law and Policy by United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) 🚀 Some key insights from the conference: 🌌 There is a strong shared commitment to address existing and emerging gaps in space regulation. 🌌 Providing certainty around internationally recognised best practices and guidelines is both paramount and possible with discussions happening across the full range of commercial, government, scientific, and importantly space-adjacent actors and experts. 🌌 Information sharing was highlighted as a critical priority by all stakeholders, recognized as essential for effective space governance. Thank you to all participants who shared insights and connected with us!

Abbhinav Muralidharan's white paper, “A Community Certification for Lunar Exploration”, delves into the importance of community input when planning lunar missions, but here’s the big question: Who exactly is the community? Defining a set of stakeholders for an exercise such as a community certification ensures community members interested in lunar exploration, especially those traditionally underrepresented, have a voice. To help visualise this, check out the stakeholder map created through consultations with the Open Lunar community and Key Informants! To learn more about how diverse perspectives can shape the future of lunar exploration, read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/ekqYq8Us
