The Onward O&G Update - 11/11/2024 President Donald Trump's dominating win will see him return to the White House in January. For those working in the oil and gas industry, Trump’s return to office signals a potential shift towards policies that favor production growth, reduced regulatory hurdles, and expanded drilling. However, the good may come with downsides. While rolling back regulation allows us to "Drill, Baby Drill", it also has the potential to flood the market, bringing down Oil Prices. Last time he was in office, Oil Prices averaged $51 a barrel. We will all need to keep a close watch on OPEC and the ongoing wars around the world. Either way, expect Operators to be doing a balancing act between exploratory drilling and maintaining current production levels. The good news...we can all expect much lower gas prices at the pump! In September 2024, a Crane nearly Struck a Helicopter as it made it's final approach to the Helideck. Before landing, the helicopter pilot visually confirmed that a nearby crane was securely stowed and stationary. As the helicopter neared touchdown, the crane operator raised the boom, bringing it alarmingly close to the landing area. The Helicopter was 10 feet from touchdown when the pilot noticed and executed a go-around maneuver to avoid collision. HSAC RP 163 states that Cranes with the ability to impact or interfere with the helideck or helicopter approach should be cradled or pointed away from the helideck, powered down, and the operators must exit the cab. All should be verified by a trained HLO prior to giving the pilot the "green-deck" to land. The incident in covered in BSEE Safety Alert 491 and can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gYna8Y8a Firewater Pumps are critical safety equipment on a facility. The Pumps must have enough fuel/power to run for 30 mins during a platform shut-in. They must be inspected and operated according to API RP 14G, Section 7.2. This includes weekly, monthly, and annual testing. "Weekly testing" can be interpreted in many ways, but with Fire Water Pumps, weekly run test should not exceed 7 days. And documentation of each test/inspection should included date, time, results, and any maintenance performed, must be maintained for a period of 2 years. The AADE's 20th Annual National Fin, Feather, Fur, Food Festival (F5) is happening this Thursday in Humble, Texas. Tickets at the gate are $55 and gives you all access to great food, great drinks, and great entertainment. We hope to see you there! Thanks for reading our weekly update. This BSEE Incident of Non-Compliance most likely would be a P-429 or P-451. Both the Inlet and the Outlet valves around the PSV appear to be in the the Open position. However, neither are Locked/Sealed Open. We often find these types of P-INCs after annual PSV testing. Usually as a result of someone moving to quickly to the next PSV test and forgetting to "lock" it back. So, if annual testing on your facility was recently completed, keep an eye out for this! While we recommend color coded locking car seals, correcting this can be as simple as securing a plastic cable tie around the valve and valve handle to prevent it from being accidently closed. For reference: BSEE P-429 states - Is each stop valve between a PSV and a pressure vessel locked or sealed in the open position when an authorized person is not stationed at the pressure vessel, as required in the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code, section viii, appendix m? BSEE P-451 states - Is each required PSV designed, installed, and maintained in accordance with applicable provisions of sections I, IV, and VIII of the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code and set at a pressure no higher than the maximum allowable working pressure? Both of which tie back to 30 CFR 250.851(a)(3)(i). https://lnkd.in/g5TztRF7
Who can tell me what's wrong in this picture? Bonus points if you reference the BSEE P-INC(s).

Onward O&G Update - 10/28/2024 BSEE Related: Last week BSEE completed 35 Facility Inspections and issued 9 Warning and 6 Component Shut-in Incidents of Non-Compliance. The company with the most Facilities Inspected this week (5) was Shell Offshore Inc. and they passed with Zero INCs. Kudos to them. You can find the breakdown here: https://lnkd.in/gAm3xG2G Industry News: Earlier this year climate activist filled a lawsuit against the federal government, claiming the current endangered species risk assessment regulation for oil and gas operations, aka "the biological opinion", was inadequate and a new one was needed. In August, District Judge Deborah Boardman ruled in their favor requiring the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to issue a new one by December 20th. A timeline that arguably is not realistic and without it has the potential to halt all operations in the US Gulf of Mexico. Thankfully, last week Judge Boardman extended the deadline to May 21, 2025, giving the NMFS another 5 months. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eHb6hG9d Rig Count: The GOM Rig count drops again, losing 2 more rigs bringing the total down to 14. One year ago we were at 22 rigs. While it seems to be an alarming trend, it's common during election years and word of mouth going around is that regardless of the outcome of the election, operators are planning to pick up additional rigs in 2025. It was a beautiful day at Koasati Pines for the AADE Lafayette Chapter Annual Golf Classic. After last night’s Tournament Social, teams were bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning and our buddies at Swire Energy Services made sure everyone on the course was well fed!
