  • Feeling the chill? ❄️ It’s got us reminiscing about our site visit to the Project Orca planting in breathtaking Oregon! 🌲 Did you know nearly half of Oregon is covered by lush evergreens and majestic redwoods? 🌳 We're proud to plant trees here to restore degraded forests and protect riparian zones. Trees along rivers play a critical role: filtering sediment, stabilizing soil, and safeguarding vital habitats for wildlife. Explore the impact we've made in Oregon! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUcHjph4

  • It's stories like these that inspire us to stay driven and continue making a meaningful impact every single day. 👇 Our Africa Project Managers Samuel Appiah Ofori and Philbert Raj HABIYAKARE have recently visited two @TerraFund for AFR100 projects in Zambia - and during this one-week journey - they witnessed firsthand the transformative power of restoration. “One of the highlights of our visit was seeing high school students deeply engaged in conservation. The school we visited had an active conservation club, and the students demonstrated remarkable knowledge and commitment to restoration practices. I told them how envious I was of them since I did not get such exposure to be involved in nature conservation when I was their age.” - Samuel Zambia, with its vast land area of 752,612 sq. km and a population of around 20 million, boasts one of the lowest population densities in Africa. Despite its abundance of natural resources, deforestation driven by charcoal production and agriculture has long posed a challenge. Yet, the country is fighting back through impactful restoration projects like these funded by TerraFund. At the Katanino Forest Landscape Project, they saw how communities within a 5km buffer zone around the reserve are restoring degraded farmlands through agroforestry. They shared that it was inspiring to meet women leading the charge as community restoration champions, proving that restoration is not just about landscapes but also empowering communities. It was even more rewarding to see how these efforts are bringing biodiversity back to the Katanino Forest Reserve. After Zambia had endured a year of drought that slowed reforestation efforts, it was heartwarming to see rains returning during our visit. Community nurseries were sparkling with thousands of healthy seedlings, ready to be planted and transform degraded lands into thriving ecosystems. "This visit was a powerful reminder that, despite challenges, communities can lead the way in landscape restoration.” - Samuel A mentality that can not be forgotten.

  • 5 things you didn't know about Christmas trees🎄 As the holidays approach, many wonder: are real Christmas trees better for the environment than fake ones? 🤔 Let’s break down some surprising facts 👇 1. Fake trees require 10 years of use to have the same carbon impact as real trees used for just one season. 2. The carbon footprint of artificial trees is over 10x higher than sustainably grown, properly recycled real trees — up to 88 lbs of CO2. 3. Most artificial trees are made with plastic and metal — resources that take a lot to create and take thousands of years to break down. 4. Fake trees contribute to ocean pollution when their plastic components end up in landfills, harming marine life. 5. Real trees improve indoor air quality by removing dust and pollen, making your home healthier during the winter months. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eFmHYqfx

  • Monarch butterflies are in crisis. 🦋 In 2022, the International Union for Conservation of Nature listed the migratory monarch butterfly, native to North America, as endangered due to habitat loss and climate change. Between 2021 and 2022 alone, their presence in Mexico’s forest wintering grounds dropped by 22%, according to the World Wildlife Fund. The good news? Trees can help. 🌳 We’re proud to plant Abies religiosa (oyamel) trees—an essential part of the monarch butterflies’ traditional nesting grounds. These incredible trees, which can live for up to 300 years, are under threat from overharvesting and climate change. By replanting and restoring their habitat, we’re working to protect both these majestic trees and the monarchs who rely on them. Every tree we plant helps ensure monarchs—and their incredible migration—have a future. https://lnkd.in/e7FFPduB.
