🙌 An new Talk Climate cohort begins their journey today! The trainees, who come from all over the world, will learn the best practices for influencing others to support or take #ClimateAction! They will learn to avoid any kind of confrontation, as conflict can lead to resistance to taking action. 👫 Some of the participants are #climate professionals, others are concerned citizens, and still others are students launching their careers. This program is for people of all backgrounds. (For those who are interested, there is a corporate version of this #training, as well as a nonprofit/public sector version as well.) 💬 This cohort will meet online once a week for 6 weeks. And they'll come away with both practical skills in leading a conversation that influences other people, as well as an understanding of the psychology behind influencing people who resist climate action. Everything in the program is research-based, leaning on the most recent knowledge about influencing people in the context of the #ClimateCrisis. 👩🏫 The program will be led by Tammy Mayer, Director of One Climate Action. 🌍 The participants in this group come from Austria, France, Italy, the UK and the United States. We look forward to getting to know them better through the six sessions! ✍ Please send your best wishes to the new cohort in the comments!

I was a fan of Dalya well before we met. Her podcast is an example of excellent #ClimateCommunications, with a focus on #local projects and creating intersections with topics people care deeply about. This week, Dalya will speak to #TalkClimate training alumni. During this Connect+Grow event series, speakers give a brief presentation on the best practices of climate #communication and then answer questions from the participants. As the alumni already have a strong foundation of knowledge about #ClimateChange communication from the One Climate Action training program, Dalya can jump into an advanced discussion and deepen their understanding of best practices. All Talk Climate alumni are invited to these events, regardless of when they completed the #training. Dalya Massachi serves as the Executive Producer/Editor of the Everyday Climate Champions Podcast. She leverages her professional background as a writer, editor, journalist, and trainer to focus on accelerating the just transition to a climate-safe world that works for everyone. She trained in 2021 as a Climate Leader with the Climate Reality Project, and is a fellow in the 2024 Climate Cohort of the Solutions Journalism Network. Dalya is also an experienced community organizer (e.g., as founder of the network of Bay Area International Development Organizations and the organizer of a monthly community cleanup of the MLK Shoreline in Oakland, CA). 👉 What would you ask Dalya if you had the chance?

You're tired of causing conflits when you talk about #ClimateChange? You wish more people would take #action, but you don't feel confident in motivating them to change their minds? This workshop series can help you learn how to speak about climate change in a kind and compassionate way, and avoid conflict. The training is just 90-minutes once a week. It goes beyond theory and gives you practical skills that you can implement in the safe training environment. Bonus: this is one of the only trainings that focuses on the psychology of resistance to climate change, and the research that helps you overcome that resistance with effective conversation tactics. The training will be in English and starts this Friday, September 6th. → All the details and FAQs can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eaRpVvzh ← *Also, here's a discount code for the fall programs: TALK24. 😉

#SummerReading for all people who want to accelerate #ClimateAction. This book was the inspiration for founding One Climate Action, and a keystone for our climate conversations training, Talk Climate: Multiply Your Impact. The book is written by Canadian Climate Scientist, Katharine Hayhoe, and is filled with references to research about climate psychology, climate communications, and human behavior. She shares her own experience trying to convince groups to care about climate change, and offers a fantastic overview of how we can have values-aligned conversations that are both convincing and peaceful. Professor Hayhoe shares how this calm method of dialogue can influence community groups, politicians and concerned citizens for lasting change! Definitely a 10/10 recommendation for all those who care about greater action to address #ClimateChange. For those who are ready to apply Professor Hahyoe's approach to the real world - with any level of (or zero) knowledge of climate science - the Talk Climate training program has two cohorts starting on Friday 6 September and Monday 21 October. New data on #worldwide reactions to and beliefs about #ClimateChange. How does your country compare? These kinds of data points can be useful in understanding how to communicate with the people where you live. In places where people are less concerned, you'll use different tactics than with groups of people who are highly concerned. Varying your #communication tactics by audience makes you more efficient with your time, because you'll be more effective at reaching and engaging with the group you're targeting. Thanks to Yale Program on Climate Change Communication for this new study! (Link in 1st comment)

We recently sent our Director out to train students in French 🇫🇷 on the best ways to communicate about the climate in a #corporate setting. 👇

There's nothing better than engaged university #students asking deeply reflective questions! I had the honor of giving a 2-hour #climate #communications training in #French to a group of students in some of France's Junior Entreprises, which are student-run consulting firms. Their thoughtful analysis and gave way to rich discussions about the best ways to engage people in a #corporate setting, how to pitch ideas and convince others to take #transformative action to address climate change. 👉 In my experience working with university students at Sciences Po, Grantham Institute at Imperial College London, Goucher College and Towson University, I've learned: → Many students are determined that radical transformation is necessary, but many also feel limited by the barriers of the existing systems (corporate, societal, economic, political, etc.). → Many students lack the understanding of nuanced relationship-building and communication that can position them to lead transformational change processes or be a point of leverage for change to occur. 🚨 Driving forward with determination while lacking the soft skills needed to build bridges and create allies is a major risk. #ClimatePsychology and research in human behavior show that the quality of our communication can make or break even minor negotiations. Common ways of persuading others can actually create resistance to climate action. The trainings I lead with One Climate Action teach students, corporate climate champions and engaged individuals how to shift to an approach that brings more people on board, and reduce the resistance to action. Trainees gain the skills they need to lead transformational climate action in companies, their personal lives and in the communities where they live. #ClimateChange #CSR #RSE

🛁 How can a 1-minute video about recycling old hotel soap be aligned with climate psychology and human behavior research? Sam Bentley produces engaging videos that frequently follow these four guidelines for excellent climate communications: 1. Focus on a solution available today 2. Highlight a group of people engaged in that solution 3. Use photos of groups and photos that show the positive impact 4. 🥰 This mosaic of faces warms my heart. I'm so #grateful to train such wonderful people. The participants in my training on conflict-free #climate conversations are normal people, and few would identify as activists. They are people with big hearts who deeply want to address the #ClimateCrisis. 👩🏫 They work in so many different sectors. From software engineers to people in climate nonprofits. And from public sector to business sector. The spread in ages is also inspiring: from those just starting their careers to those in retirement, and everything in between. 🌏 They have come from all over the world. From Australia, Cameroon, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States. 💫 Knowing that so many people are ready to increase their impact inspires me. Their energy for accelerating climate action is what drives me to continue with this work. Thank you to all my past participants! I am so excited by what you are doing to address the climate emergency! 🥹👏👏👏 ⭐ The 6th cohort starts Tuesday! For anyone interested in learning more, or joining the next cohort, I'll put a link in the comments.
