Talk about a nice surprise right before the holidays! ✨Bloomberg sat down with Semyon Dukach to discuss our ongoing mission to invest in #immigrants in the #tech sector in light of the H-1B visa process undergoing an overhaul in the US. In conversation with Caroline Hyde, Semyon shed light on why we continue betting on immigrant #founders. “We know that collectively, immigrants are not just slightly better at building businesses. They are responsible for the majority of the value generated from new companies. In fact, 55% of unicorns are founded by immigrants.” But why? 💡 “It’s not about founders from other countries being better; it’s about them making the journey. The experience of coming to a new country is predictive of how much grit and perseverance they have.” Thanks to #Bloomberg for allowing us to share our mission and showcase a few of our #portfolio companies, and thanks to our founders for their hard work and fantastic results! 👏 BRELYON Buddy.ai Brex Chipper Cash Lynk KarmaCheck Tabs Helm.ai Machinery Partner Tive Inc Quantivly Retrocausal Odyssey SpaceWorks Impilo Happy Holidays to our founders and partners across the globe! https://lnkd.in/gTVGfPVZ

On Bloomberg TV earlier today, they asked me to explain why we invest in immigrants at One Way Ventures. Do we invest in them because they founded over half the unicorns? Or that they have more grit? Or that they never quit? Well we invest in them of course because we can! But why can we? The answer may surprise you. We can, because we don't invest in them at all! Only in us, in our fellow dreamers, our tribe of hope, of grit, of one way tickets. We are Americans. We made it great the first time. And more will join and help us make it greater. For immigrants, by immigrants. Forever. https://lnkd.in/eX2X2RRK

“I’m motivated by my goal of defending people’s right to live, work, and start companies where they please.” -- MSN recently republished Semyon Dukach’s story on his life journey: from USSR refugee, to founder of a #VC fund exclusively for immigrants. One Way has been investing in exceptional immigrant founders since 2018 - with a new era of US politics about to begin, we still hold that core belief that “not fitting in is an advantage.” Immigrants are central to US #innovation and economic progress. Today, VCs have unprecedented influence in how the nation treats #immigrants seeking to build a life, or a company, in the country. #Slush was the beating heart of #Europe's startup ecosystem last month, and it was clear big things are happening for #tech and #entrepreneurship on the continent. We had our Entrepreneur-in-residence Masha Levin co-hosting a fantastic side event with our partners Flyer One Ventures, Inovo.vc, SID Venture Partners, Snap Inc., TRMNL4, and Solidgate, which included a startup pitch competition (won by memoryOS), and a great mixer for VCs and startups. The #startup investment ecosystem in Europe is buzzing and it’s great to see that it's driven in large part by the immigrant cohort, just like in the US. There have been less studies on immigrants driving #innovation on the continent, but just by looking at the founder composition at Slush it’s clear - almost everyone is an immigrant. Thanks to our partners for a fab night and we look forward to more next year! #VC #immigrantentrepreneurship #investment #immigrants

Our portfolio company Helm.ai has yet again demonstrated it’s one of the strongest teams in the autonomous driving space - last month, #Honda announced that Helm.ai’s tech will be used in the new #EV “Honda 0 Series,” to be launched globally in 2026. Honda will integrate Helm.ai's unsupervised learning tech to its #AI technology, combining it with the behavior models of experienced drivers to provide accurate driver assistance. 🚘 Helm.ai is building AI solutions for autonomous driving development. They’ve raised $102M so far, including from strategic investors Honda and #Goodyear Ventures. 🏁 It was also great to see Helm.ai at TechCrunch’s flagship event Disrupt earlier this year, when CEO and founder Vladislav Voroninski got on stage with Connie Loizos. They spoke about AI-based simulation for training autonomous driving models -vs- fleet-based training. Helm.ai’s #genAI model generates realistic driving videos to accelerate training + lower costs. Their tech can support advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving, and robotic automation. If you’re interested, find them at CES 2025 in January! The The Immigrant Learning Center, Inc just honored our portfolio founder Krenar Komoni with the 2024 Barry M. Portnoy Immigrant Entrepreneur Award! 🎖️ His company Tive Inc has grown significantly over the last few years, becoming a global leader in supply chain and #logistics visibility technology. Krenar was born in Kosovo and came to the US alone as a high school exchange student at the age of 17. After meeting his wife, he decided to build a tool to help his father-in-law’s trucking company better track their vehicles. Krenar locked himself in his basement for months and started testing a device with his father-in-law’s trucks, eventually quitting his job and founding Tive - a real-time location and condition tracker for shipments. The ILC put together this video on Tive’s journey, also featuring our Semyon Dukach. https://lnkd.in/dVUAspAv 🌟 Reach out if you want to hear more about our work supporting immigrant founders. #supplychain #logisticstech
