Our president and CEO Javier Fernandez recently spoke at the Large Public Power Council’s (LPPC) Post-Election Forum. As the vice chair of the LPPC board, Javier is taking an active role in shaping the future of public power.
LPPC’s Post-Election Forum brought together legislators, thought leaders, and public power officials to advance policy to meet rapidly growing demand for electricity. With insights from Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), Rep. Ferguson (GA-03), and Rep. Scott Peters (CA-50), and more, the event underscored LPPC’s three policy priorities for 2025: - Infrastructure Financing – Affordable financing allows public power utilities to build the infrastructure our communities need. That means more investment, lower electric rates, and more of the energy our electric customers use to create jobs. - EPA CO2 Rule Revisions – With rapidly growing demand, our country is struggling to build electric infrastructure fast enough. We support pursuing clean energy goals while maintaining grid reliability and affordability. With more flexibility, we can meet the energy needs of our communities and reduce carbon emissions. - Permitting Reform – Streamlined permitting and licensing at the federal and state levels speeds projects, reduces cost, and allows us to supply the energy our customers use to grow their businesses and power our communities. LPPC utilities are not-for-profits that put our communities first. As LPPC President-Elect Tom Falcone put it: “Electric utilities power America’s economic progress. To be world leaders in AI, advanced manufacturing, and electrification, our country needs significant investments in electric infrastructure. Without urgent action in Washington, demand for electricity will continue outpacing supply, threatening jobs and investment.” #cleanenergy #energypolicy #energyinfastructure #publicpower

We’re proud to celebrate two outstanding individuals recently honored by the OPPD Women’s Network (OWN)! 🌟 🏆 OWN Woman of Achievement Award – Rachel, Manager of EMS Operational Technology Applications. A trailblazer in a field historically lacking female representation, Rachel has risen from engineer to manager—breaking barriers along the way. Her leadership, mentorship and advocacy inspire her team and champion opportunities for women at OPPD. Rachel is also one of the few women in North America leading an energy management system department at an electric utility. 🏆 OWN Allyship Award – Doug, Director of Enterprise Operational Technology. Doug exemplifies allyship by fostering a culture of equity and inclusion. His mentorship and advocacy empower women to challenge the status quo, grow their skills and amplify their voices in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Doug’s dedication to creating an environment where everyone can succeed makes him a true ally. Congratulations to Rachel and Doug on their well-deserved recognition! Your leadership and allyship make OPPD a better, stronger organization for all. 🧡
