About us
ONI is a core element of the Navy’s Information Warfare Community whose goal is to gain and hold a decisive information advantage over America’s potential adversaries. ONI collects, analyzes, and produces maritime intelligence and disseminates that intelligence rapidly to strategic, operational, and tactical decision makers to meet Navy, DoD, and national requirements. Our integrated workforce of active duty and Reserve naval and civilian professionals supports combat operations and provides vital information for planning America’s defense against maritime threats at home and around the world. We produce maritime intelligence on naval weapons and technology proliferation, transnational threats in civil maritime counter-proliferation, counter-narcotics and the global maritime environment, and other activities that directly support the U.S. Navy, joint war fighters and national decision makers and agencies. The Commander Office of Naval Intelligence and staff oversee four Centers of Excellence: the Nimitz Warfare Analysis Center, the Farragut Technical Analysis Center, the Kennedy Maritime Analysis Center, and the Hopper Global Communications Center.

On this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we remember the extraordinary courage of the service members and civilians who faced the surprise attack on December 7, 1941. Naval Information Forces held its annual Commanders’ Summit this week, gathering more than 300 commanders and senior enlisted leaders across the global #InformationWarfare community. In addition to discussing key community updates and initiatives, this year’s summit also incorporated, for the first time, a series of working groups dedicated to addressing critical problem sets facing the IW community in the coming years. “We succeed because of our people,” the US Navy’s IBoss, Vice Adm. Vernazza noted. “Empowering our warfighters with the tools, training, and trust they need to act decisively is at the cornerstone of our strategy. This summit has reaffirmed our commitment to delivering results that enable our Navy to compete, deter, and win.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eU7hcWrv #navyiw #NAVIFOR #GetRealGetBetter

Exciting Milestone for Project 2032! In late October, two key Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) were signed to advance the Project 2032 initiative, aimed at updating the history of Naval Intelligence as we approach our 150th anniversary. These agreements were formalized between the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC), and the Naval Intelligence Professionals (NIP). The ONI-NIP MOA was signed by Vice Admiral (Ret) Robert (Bob) Sharp and Commander, Office of Naval Intelligence, Rear Admiral Mike Brookes on October 30, 2024. Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Brookes and NHHC Director Rear Admiral (Ret) Sam Cox finalized the ONI-NHHC agreement. Under the leadership of Lynn Wright, Project 2032 builds on Captain Wyman Packard's foundational work, A Century of Naval Intelligence, with a special emphasis on post-Cold War activities. We are actively seeking researchers, writers, and professional editors to contribute to this important work. If you're interested in participating, please reach out to us at nip.project.2032@gmail.com. (And please share this post so others who might be interested can be informed!)
