Happy #NationalComingOutDay 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Today we celebrate the courage of those who live openly and support those still on their way. We take this moment to spotlight one of our very own team members. "I remember the first days of the program and the big question in the back of my head: was I going to come out to this new community of which I was a part? Turns out, I needn’t have worried as I was welcomed with open arms. Being gay was one facet of who I was, but my fellow AmeriCorps members and staff saw me as Aaron…who happened to be gay among other things. They trusted me to lead projects, events and eventually teams. I showed up as my full self - and I haven’t looked back!" – Aaron Miner, Deputy Chief Service Officer, National Service & Fiscal Operations Read more about Aaron's journey and how service and community helped him embrace his authentic self! ➡️ https://on.nyc.gov/3Yl3ZM5 #ServeNYC #PrideInService

On Friday September 13th, we officially kicked off the AmeriCorps service year for 130 trained AmeriCorps members who will serve in full-time positions at 50 various public service organizations over the next 10-months. This year's cohort was sworn in at Forest Park, Queens, pledging to "get things done" for their city and country. “Every one of them took the AmeriCorps pledge to ‘get things done,’ and I know that their work will improve the lives of New Yorkers across all five boroughs. There is no higher calling than to serve others, and their commitment to this work is both humbling and inspiring.” - New York State Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado.
