It's busy season for Salesforce. Their FYE is around the corner, they're managing a big renewal pipeline, and they have a game plan for how to get the most revenue out of each one. If you're working on a Salesforce renewal right now, here are 3 tips for negotiation: 1. Renew only what you need. Get rid of unused licenses or harvest them for redeployment. You may find you need fewer (or zero) new licenses. 2. Sanity check and rightsize licenses. Not everyone needs the same license type. Identify opportunities to switch users to more cost-effective options. 3. Know your points of leverage. Salesforce is not known for pricing flexibility (although it does grant substantial discounts to companies that know how and when to demand them). Know what's motivating your particular account team. Come to the table with a clear picture of what a world-class deal looks like for YOUR scope and roadmap. Bonus insights from NPI CEO Jon Winsett in the video below!

Oracle Java SE costs are exploding and it's getting C-level attention. The shift to employee-based licensing is causing 2x to 10x increases for enterprise customers. Oracle’s objective is obvious. Nearly every Java customer will now face higher licensing counts, regardless of actual usage. That's great for Oracle revenues, bad for customers' IT budgets. Oh yeah, there's a bonus headache. If you're reluctant to transition to the new metrics, your risk of a software license audit goes up. Many customers have had it. The cost impact is untenable – or, at the very least, frustrating enough to trigger serious consideration of Java alternatives. Those who avoid Oracle’s new metric this renewal cycle are well aware they will eventually be exposed to the full brunt of Oracle’s aggressive revenue tactics in one form or another. There are steps you can take now to minimize cost and compliance risk across your Java deployment. To learn what they are, head over to our blog. Link in the comments!
