H.R. 8234, a bill to streamline the passport process and authorize notaries public to accept applications, was included in the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill is headed to the President’s desk! In June, I had the pleasure of testifying before the House Bipartisan Task Force on AI regarding the risks of generative AI-powered impersonation. Today, after nine months of hearings, meetings, and careful study, the Task Force released its report detailing America’s leadership in AI and how Congress may address the next chapter of this important technology. It was an honor to participate and contribute to this report, and I’m pleased and encouraged to see the Task Force discuss the concerns of synthetic content and the role that digital ID and content authenticity frameworks can play in protecting Americans from fraud. I want to thank Chairman Jay Obernolte, Co-Chairman Ted Lieu, members of the Task Force, staff, and the many members of Congress I met with over the last year to discuss these issues. Looking Ahead: AI will play a central role in powering the next wave of American innovation. But it has already transformed today’s fight against fraud.
