NHCOG and the northwest region of CT was well represented at the New England Rural Health Association’s Annual Conference. NERHA brings together rural health and human service professionals from the six New England states (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI and VT) to share innovative projects that aim to overcome the challenges of rural healthcare delivery and sustainability. On day one of the conference, Leonardo Ghio, MBA joined colleagues on the opening Plenary Panel to discuss transportation barriers, substance use, workforce shortages and tribal access to care. On day two, Leonardo Ghio, MBA was joined by Julia Hetterich Scharnberg and Lori Fedewa to co-present a breakout session to discuss how the NHCOG came to be the first organization in CT to receive a Rural Health Network Development Grant from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. Kudos go to Leonardo Ghio, MBA for pursuing an opportunity to further support the mission of NHCOG and the wellbeing of the region that it serves!

Amazing things happening in the education and workforce development fields here in the Northwest Corner thanks to EdAdvance and their innovative College & Career Accelerator program. This program gives students the opportunity to stay enrolled in their local school system while attending college and career advancement courses at a satellite location. From outfitting the building, to developing the necessary partnerships with higher ed, and even funding the program, hats off to EdAdvance for creating new and promising pathways to success!
