Today, the Norfolk Airport Authority Police Department hosted its annual Christmas Sponsorship. Authority employees were encouraged to nominate a coworker who would benefit from this sponsorship which provides monetary and gift donations. NAAPD has been organizing and hosting this event since 2009. We would like to extend a warm thank you to the Christmas Sponsorship Committee and its leader, Dispatcher Pierce, for spreading the "Christmas Love" 💙 Their contributions to NAA do not go unnoticed - thank you!

Fantastic discussions today at ORF as the Norfolk Airport Authority welcomed partner businesses and agencies to discuss collaboration in response to an airfield emergency. Trainings such as today’s are invaluable when responding to a real world event. Thanks to the City of Norfolk, VA, City of Virginia Beach, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Signature Aviation and others for taking part in this important conversation.

This afternoon the Norfolk Airport Authority hosted this month’s Hampton Roads Community Advisory Committee Meeting at ORF. Our President & CEO Mark Perryman, Assoc. AIA gave an update on the status of the #TransformORF capital improvement program, and shared details on the level of community support that’s neccesary to successfully bring nonstop international flights to Hampton Roads. The CAC ensures public voices and perspectives are received by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization. Its members here today represented multiple municipalities and state agencies, with personal expertise in fields ranging from energy and economics to health care, planning and engineering. We’re proud to share ORF’s story with these influential local influencers and decision makers, including HRPDC/HRTPO Executive Director Bob Crum.

Who says big business isn’t fun? At yesterday’s Norfolk Airport Authority management retreat we welcomed Brad McMurran, a talented improvisational comedian and writer who’s also the co-creator of the Push Comedy Theater in downtown Norfolk’s NEON district. Using stage-proven techniques perfected studying with New York's Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater, McMurran offered a 60-minute master class on the power of using “Yes, and…” responses, and how that simple approach can transform communication within groups or organizations big and small. As we power toward the end of what will be another record-setting year, ORF's team has already set its sights on a more successful 2025 and beyond. Come fly with us – or consider working with us if you’re seeking employment with an airport that’s transforming right before our eyes. #StrongerTogether.

Congratulations to our Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Chris Jones, CM, MBA! 👏
I was honored to be included among this year's batch of new executives recognized by the Hampton Roads Chamber earlier this week at the Chrysler Museum of Art's recently opened Perry Glass Studio. It's been a little more than two years since my family and I moved to Norfolk. We've thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, and I am personally pleased to play a small part in moving this community forward in my role with the Norfolk Airport Authority, as well as through my prior work with the City of Norfolk, VA. We're blessed to be here. There are so many talented people building amazing things in Coastal Virginia. Come check us out when you get the opportunity.

Last night, our President and CEO Mark Perryman, Assoc. AIA was honored by the Hampton Roads Chamber during its 2024 BRAVO! Celebration of Leadership event. Perryman was recognized as this year's Visionary Award recipient by Chamber President & CEO Bryan K. Stephens, who cited Norfolk International Airport's recent passenger growth and ongoing $1 billion capital improvement program, TransformORF. "Seeing the people welcoming their loved ones, their business partners; seeing the military as they come and go... that's what makes me love my work," Perryman said. "The things we affect, day in and day out, have a huge impact. The airport has so much untapped potential and I think that applies to the region." Congratulations to the evening's other honorees, including Joan Brock, Virginia Sen. Louise Lucas, Dr. Antipas L. Harris, Ryan Banas, PE, CCM and all of the graduates of this year's Lead757 program.

Earlier today, the Norfolk Airport Authority updated leaders from the City of Virginia Beach on what's in store as ORF continues its transformation. President & CEO Mark Perryman, Assoc. AIA presented Mayor Bobby Dyer and city council members slides showcasing upcoming construction projects, goals for expanded airline service and how ORF supports residents and visitors throughout Hampton Roads and beyond. Last year, Virginia Beach led the region in hosting overnight stays by fly-in travelers who came here for both business and pleasure purposes. The city was also the top supplier of outbound local travelers, with 22 percent of ORF's 2023 passengers residing within a Virginia Beach ZIP code. Council members stressed the importance of air connectivity for economic development as well as local workforce development. "What you're doing at the airport is bringing people in," said Mayor Dyer, who praised the city's partnership with ORF. Added Perryman: "We will not be successful as an airport unless the region is successful. And we add to the region's success."
