About us

The North Lawndale Employment Network was founded in 1999 to improve the earnings potential of the North Lawndale Community through innovative employment initiatives that lead to economic advancement and an improved quality of life for residents. NLEN continually updates its services to meet the employment needs of clients and the community at large. NLEN’s approach to addressing the extremely high rates of unemployment and underemployment in North Lawndale is to offer employment services and transitional jobs to North Lawndale residents, many of whom are formerly incarcerated persons and others with significant barriers to employment.   • A moment to reflecting on some of NLEN's 2024 Achievements This year has been filled with incredible milestones that highlight our commitment to creating opportunities and driving positive change in the North Lawndale community. Here’s a look at what we accomplished together in 2024: - Partnered with the 24th Ward Alderwoman, Cinespace, Wintrust, and other sponsors to serve 360 families through our Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway. - Promoted peace and connected job seekers with opportunities at the North Lawndale Peace in the Streets event, in collaboration with Witherite Law Group, iHeartMedia Chicago, and the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council. - Empowered opportunity youth through our Craft Your Path Signing Day, providing job readiness training and industry-recognized credentials. - Celebrated National Coffee Day with a week of events and promotions at the Beelove Cafe. - Honored as a Citi Progress Makers Award recipient, recognizing our innovation and community impact. - Fostered wellness and unity among staff through the 296+ Climb at Nichols Tower. - Hosted quarterly hiring fairs to connect motivated job seekers with employment opportunities. - Produced 10,500 Beelove lip balms for the DNC through Sweet Beginnings LLC. - Honored Brenda Palms for 25 years of visionary leadership. - Graduated our first solar installation cohort in partnership with Elevate. - Welcomed Mahogany Bus Tours to the Beelove Cafe, making it a regular stop on west side tours. - Raised critical funds at our Honey and Beer Tasting Fundraiser, hosted by the Associate Board. - Captured NLEN’s origin story on film with support from the Steans Family Foundation. - Strengthened partnerships through meaningful corporate engagements. - Renewed our strategic plan to guide future initiatives and deepen our impact.
