A few more observations on the Santa Cruz XRT. The step rails are not necessary and actually hinder egress and ingress. Rock rail are the real solution which offer protection to the lower structure while still giving a “cool” off road look. Upgrade the tire to a more aggressive off road version. An “adventure vehicle” needs to be able confidently “adventure”.

The Santa Cruz proved up to the task of providing a comfortable cross country ride. MPG using a manual test gave us 28.2 Highway MPG. Overall we liked the Santa Cruz. There are a few cost cutting measures Hyundai took on this $40K+ XRT. One is lack of soft touch materials on the doors and center council. Another is the ridiculous cheap piece of felt in the center council, no secondary storage tray, lack of rear seat vents, USB, and power in the rear of the council, and lastly no neutral position for the switch which adjusts the rear view mirrors.
