Alert! 🚨 Public Service Announcement: Stop implementing cool new technology (ie AI) for the sake of just having it. We’re looking at you companies with unnecessary AI chatbots 👀 While AI can transform the user experience, it can only do so if it’s done with the right intention. But too many recent AI features miss the mark, focusing on novelty rather than user value. As UX professionals, our challenge is to ensure AI features solve real problems not just to sit there looking pretty. If you are thinking about creating an AI tool remember that you aren’t exempt from conducting research with your users. Just because AI is a shiny new tool doesn’t bypass the need for understanding users and their needs. For all you know, a new AI feature might not be the best solution to their problems. Should UX practitioners have a seat at the Agile Sprint Review table? Absolutely!! Yes!! Of Course! Sprint reviews are where progress is shared, feedback is gathered, and next steps are decided. But too often, UX is left out of this conversation. Why? Traditional Agile processes didn’t initially prioritize UX, and some teams just haven’t adapted. Yet, when UX joins sprint reviews we bring benefits like: ✅ User-focused insights that help guide smarter decisions ✅ UX expertise answers stakeholders’ tough questions about users & design decisions ✅ Increasing visibility for UX work Don’t feel like you have a seat at the table yet? Start small: request 5 minutes to share key insights at the next review. Once you’re there: → Show how UX research informed recent features → Share 3–5 impactful user insights or a standout user quote → Keep it visual, simple, and digestible Your presence not only enriches the conversation but also strengthens your team’s connection to the people they’re designing for. Remember learning about the rhetorical triangle in English class and thinking, “When am I ever going to use this?” Well, surprise! Turns out, ethos, logos, and pathos aren’t just for essay writing; they’re essential for convincing stakeholders to back your UX decisions! Here’s how to use each part of the triangle to build a compelling case for your UX recommendations: 📈 Ethos is all about credibility. When making a case, highlight your relevant expertise, research, and experience to build trust. If you’re not the authority, cite respected sources or data to back your argument. 🧠 Logos appeals to logic. Demonstrate the reasoning behind your recommendation with data. For instance, you might compare user success rates before and after a design change or contrast current metrics with industry benchmarks to show the potential impact. ❤️ Pathos connects on an emotional level. Use storytelling to make your point memorable, and share visuals or video clips that reveal user frustrations or successes. When stakeholders empathize with users’ experiences, they’re more likely to support user-centered solutions. So, it turns out your English teacher was right… ethos, logos, and pathos *are* useful. And while we can’t promise that these tips will always get you your desired result, they are a good framework for improving your argumentation.
