  • Take 1 minute to share your support for home infusion legislation! Momentum has been building for legislators to address Medicare’s home infusion benefit as part of a year-end legislative package. After considerable engagement from NHIA, the groundwork has been laid for Congress to pass the Preserving Patient Access to Home Infusion Act (H.R. 4104; S. 1976) and enhance access to home infusion services for Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. • Shane Bare is a patient who takes immune globulin to keep his chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) from progressing. Despite being in a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury, Bare is very independent, administering his therapy subcutaneously at home each week. He had to fight many battles to get Medicare to cover his life-saving therapy and has harnessed that energy into advocating for home infusion patients and coverage of services in the site of care that works best for the patient. • NHIA expressed deep concern today regarding the recently proposed government funding bill, which includes major changes to the qualifying criteria for drugs under Medicare’s home infusion benefit but fails to address the underlying flaws that have plagued the program. Without fixing the structure of the benefit, Medicare beneficiaries in need of home infusions for treatment of a variety of medical conditions, including rare diseases, are unlikely to gain access to home-based care. NHIA is calling on Congress to urgently pass the Preserving Patient Access to Home Infusion Act, which would fix the broken home infusion benefit, reduce the cost of care, and broaden access. This bipartisan legislation — which enjoys support from dozens of stakeholder organizations and was widely supported at a hearing in the House Ways & Means Committee this year — includes critical reforms that will ensure beneficiaries living in rural areas and those with disabilities who depend on home access can find a qualified provider. • NHIA member Glenel Tillich entered home infusion reimbursement in 1989 with no background in medical billing. An amazing mentor taught her the complex ins and outs of managing outstanding AR from billing to claims adjudication—in an all-manual system. Now she leads a company that provides revenue management services to provider clients. Over the years, Tillich has developed a passion for home infusion, noting that “the outcomes are better, compliance is better, and it makes for a healthier for patient all around.” Watch the video: https://loom.ly/LzBJCts Glenel Tillich, FNHIA President TANYR
