About us
Newton County is a 279-square-mile area east of Atlanta on Interstate 20 in north central Georgia. According to the United States Census Bureau, Newton County had an estimated 105,473 people in 2015. The county seat is Covington, one of five municipalities located entirely within Newton County. The others are Porterdale, Mansfield, Newborn and Oxford. The city of Social Circle is located partially in Newton County and in neighboring Walton County. Rodrigues Johnson, a Roll-Off Operator for the Newton County Solid Waste Authority, finished in first place recently during an international competition. Johnson achieved the feat against 15 competitors from across the nation during the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) competition on Oct. 5. Johnson also earned the title of “Top Gun” in the Truck Competition against 61 other drivers. Johnson has been with Newton County for more than five years serving as a CDL Driver/Equipment Operator at the landfill.
