Today, Newsreel CEO and founder, Jack Brewster, visited Professor Stephanie Miner’s class at Colgate University to introduce Newsreel and engage in discussion with students about the future of news. Jack discussed various topics with some of Colgate's brightest including: 📌 Why are they increasingly avoiding the news? 📌 How are they staying informed today and how can Newsreel help? 📌 What would make news more engaging and meaningful to them? The class tested Newsreel earlier this week and shared feedback on the app. The discussion also evolved into a deeper conversation about the current state of news in America and how today’s media landscape influences civic engagement and trust. 🚀 Newsreel launched its first pilot at Colgate University, bringing our interactive news experience to students for the first time! Here’s what students had to say about Newsreel: 💬 “Just a quick start to the day—you get what you need to know in five minutes. It’s way more efficient than Instagram… less scrolling, more actual news.” 💬 “I was flipping through like crazy, clicking links, and did all of that in ten minutes. It’s easy and gives you the essentials without the overload.” 💬 “The timelines feature is really useful. Once I get the news briefing, I know what the big headlines are, and if something catches my interest, I’d go to the timelines to learn more.” The pilot gave us fresh insights, and we’re already working on improvements based on their feedback. Our CEO, Jack Brewster, recently spoke at Mill Valley Public Library about how phones, social media, and AI are changing the way we learn and speak about the world around us. Jack argued that we are in the midst of what he calls a “great information devolution,” where the abundance of information and the speed at which it is delivered are overwhelming our ability to think critically, engage meaningfully, and maintain a deep understanding of complex issues. He challenged the audience to consider how these shifts are affecting our brains, our conversations, and our ability to make informed decisions—and called on everyone to rethink their relationship with technology to reclaim their attention and agency.
