December 20th marks the fifth birthday of the United States’ youngest military branch. The United States Space Force is a separate and distinct branch of the armed services, organized under the Department of the Air Force in a manner very similar to how the Marine Corps is organized under the Department of the Navy. Its Mission: to organize, train, and equip Guardians to conduct global space operations that enhance the way U.S. joint and coalition forces fight, while also offering decision makers military options to achieve national objectives. NCIRE wishes the U.S. Space Force a Happy 5th Birthday and thanks its service members for protecting us “Always Above”! Read more: https://lnkd.in/dpxn89P

On December 13th we celebrate the 388th birthday of the U.S. National Guard. On this date in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America organized in Massachusetts. Based upon an order of the Massachusetts Bay Colony’s General Court, the colony’s militia was organized into three permanent regiments to defend the colony better. Today, the descendants of these first regiments – the 181st Infantry, the 182nd Infantry, the 101st Field Artillery, and the 101st Engineer Battalion of the Massachusetts Army National Guard – share the distinction of being the oldest units in the U.S. military. NCIRE celebrates the National Guard and the long history. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gsa5nJrX

The Northern California Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (NCIRE) was established in 1988 following Congress passing Public Law 100-322 (now codified at section 7361-66 of title 38, United States Code) that allowed Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers to establish Nonprofit research corporations (NPCs) to provide flexible funding mechanisms to administer non-VA research funds, forming a unique public/private partnership that dramatically broadened VA’s ability to benefit from private and non-VA public support for research conducted at VA medical centers. Over the past 36 years, NCIRE has grown from a small 4-person team into a bustling 33-person administrative core staff with over 220 employees in research labs and offices within the San Francisco VA campus lead by Rebecca Rosales, MBA, CRA, Chief Executive Officer. NCIRE is the largest of the 79 Nonprofit research institutes associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs nationwide and plays a crucial role in supporting over 200 SFVAHCS researchers as they endeavor to improve the understanding and management of disorders affecting our Veterans. Please join us in celebrating 36 years serving Veterans and the global community though research advancement! www.ncire.org

Each year on December 7th, Veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. An additional 1,178 people were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft.
