2024 started with the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge undergoing a preservation project - completed ahead of schedule in May. In July, a $242 million federal grant was announced, paving the way for a long-term investment in the future with a replacement bridge. A new memorial in Wilson honors NCDOT employees who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while working to protect the traveling public. The memorial recognizes 12 individuals who have lost their lives in Highway Division 4, which covers Edgecombe, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Wayne and Wilson counties dating back to 1975. We are forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.
