NAWBO Chicago recognizes #Kwanzaa – a celebration of cultural heritage! 🕯️ The name Kwanzaa, Swahili for “First Fruits of the Harvest,” is an annual holiday affirming African family and social values. Each day of Kwanzaa is tied to one of the holiday’s seven principles: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (faith). Each day, families bring out corresponding symbols and light a new candle on the Kinara (candleholder). On the final day, a feast is held, called the Karamu. To all of our friends and colleagues, we wish you light, happiness and peace in the coming year.
