  • A heartfelt congratulations to Mary Bonauto and Evan Wolfson, who were awarded the prestigious Presidential Citizens Medal yesterday by President Biden. We are elated that their groundbreaking work has been recognized with this esteemed honor. Mary Bonauto, Senior Director of Civil Rights and Legal Strategies at GLAD, has been a trailblazer in the fight for marriage equality. She led GLAD’s legal teams in historic victories across Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine, culminating in her powerful argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges. This landmark decision established marriage equality as a constitutional right, transforming the lives of countless individuals, families, and communities nationwide. Evan Wolfson, a distinguished civil rights lawyer and LGBTQ+ advocate, is renowned for his tireless efforts to advance marriage equality in the United States. As the founder and president of Freedom to Marry, he spearheaded the legal and cultural movement that paved the way for the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. Wolfson’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice have solidified his legacy as a champion of civil rights. We are thrilled to celebrate this well-deserved recognition for both Mary and Evan. Watch the ceremony here: https://lnkd.in/eHr-MYM9

  • LGBTQ+ representation and inclusion in all aspects of the legal process are key to ensuring that our rights are protected, and the National LGBTQ+ Bar is increasing our education and advocacy efforts in the new year. If you haven’t seen it yet, we encourage you to watch our new video honoring the 10th anniversary of SmithKline Beecham v. Abbott Laboratories. We’re also building our community’s strength by creating resource databases, writing best practice guides, and helping LGBTQ+ attorneys move into the judiciary. Your gift funds our work to ensure full equality for LGBTQ+ people under the law. Thank you for your support! https://lnkd.in/dYR8eh9?
