The holidays are always lively at our Supportive Housing sites, with lots of activities and performances and parties. But there’s one tradition we hold especially dear. Mystic Valley Regional Charter School visits 630 Salem St. in Malden to put on a holiday party. Students serve a great meal and the band and chorus perform festive songs that residents love to sing along to. The schools even brings special gifts, including scratch tickets and poinsettia bouquets, that are given away by lottery. It’s really heartwarming to see the generations come together, and to hear the feedback from the kids! As we celebrate the start of 2025, we’d like to thank the many people who made the past year special and helped #MVES to serve our community and continue to grow. It’s designed to help those with chronic health diseases learn to self-manage their condition. It’s focused on improving health and wellbeing, and it’s free to participate. During the holidays, we receive special support from the Tufts Advancement Team through the MVES Giving Tree Program. Members of our staff recommend residents who’d benefit from receiving a holiday gift. Then, community partners “adopt and shop” for them – in this case, members of the Tufts University Advancement Team. Hanukkah begins tonight, one of the rare times it coincides with Christmas. Thanks to differences between the Gregorian and Hebrew calendars, this has happened only a handful of times in the 20th and 21st centuries. The last time was 2005. With Kwanzaa beginning tomorrow, that’s a busy holiday calendar! Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to those celebrating today, and Happy New Year to all!
