Viva La Solar Revolution! South Africa has leapt into a solar energy revolution, aiming to install over 8GW of solar capacity within the next eight years! According to the International Energy Agency, this makes for around 4 million additional jobs to be created across the continent by 2030. SA is predicted to be the 10th largest solar energy market in the world by the end of this year, alone! So, what are you waiting for? Shoutout to The Sun For Keeping us Lit It’s time we showed our sun the love it deserves with these fun facts. The sun is one hot celestial body! The core is an astonishing 15 million degrees Celsius! The Sun accounts for almost all the mass in our solar system. It might take some time (exactly 8min., 20sec.) to reach us, but every hour, the sun delivers more energy to our planet than we use in an entire year! Wanna get your hands on some of that energy? Check out the link in our bio. #MrSola #SolarFacts #OurStar #Sol #SpaceFacts #RenewableEnergy

The Magic (Science) Of AC/DC Here’s the not-so-magical process behind turning sunlight into electricity: Step 1: Solar Panels Capture Sunlight Solar panels are made of a special material called photovoltaic (PV) cells. These are installed on rooftops or in open spaces and absorb sunlight, converting it into electricity (DC). Step 2: Inverter Turns DC to AC The DC electricity generated by the panels is sent to an inverter. This converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity, AKA the type used by most household appliances. Step 3: Powering Your Home (Or the World!) This AC electricity is then used to power your home. Any excess energy can be stored in batteries. Or, if you want to save even more, you could send it back to the grid, which can earn you credits through net metering. Feeling thunderstruck? There’s a Reason That Solar Panel is Doing Jazz Hands! There’s a ton of ways renewable energy systems can save you money- here’s just a few of them: Reduced Bills: Eskom has nothing on the sun! By using solar power, you can significantly reduce or even eliminate your monthly electricity spending. Increased Property Value: Homes with solar energy systems are very attractive to buyers and tend to sell for more than those without. Low Maintenance Costs: Solar panels require very little maintenance and tend to have a good lifespan. Commercial Savings: Businesses can also benefit from having solar energy systems, offering them a competitive edge in the market. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬! ⚡ ⚡ ⚡ Third Place: Water Heaters Typically, they use about 14-18% of your power. Both tank-based and tankless heaters consume substantial amounts of energy, due to their need to maintain a constant temperature. Runner-up: Air Conditioning In warmer climates (like ours usually is) air conditioning can comprise 15-20% of household energy consumption. First Place: Heating (furnaces, boilers and space heaters) These can account for a whopping 40-50% of your home’s energy usage. In colder climates (like ours is right now ) this is especially true. Keep an eye on how your household is using energy this winter. #MrSola #SolarEfficiency #GoGreen #CleanEnergyTips #WinterHasCome
