About us

Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum is an award-winning, multifaceted arts and cultural institution serving the public through its exhibitions and performances, which strive to interpret the past and discover the future through art, sound, and motion. The Museum is home to the historic and internationally-significant Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata. The Museum’s Bickford Theatre is a 312-seat performing-arts facility, offering unique programming in film, jazz, and live performance through its innovative series, Live Arts. As New Jersey’s only Smithsonian Affiliate Museum, it launched Spark!Lab, a dynamic, Smithsonian-created learning space which will inspire young visitors to create, collaborate, and innovate. The Morris Museum is a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

  • Several members of the Morris Museum Education Team recently attended Spark!Lab's 2024 Network Conference. This year's focus was introducing Inventive Identity development in Spark!Lab, and deepening our visitors' confidence as creative problem solvers in their lives and communities. This conference was attended by members of each Spark!Lab Network site and was held at the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. During one panel, learning facilitator Cara Schanz discussed how the Morris Museum Spark!Lab team goes about adapting activities, and how it supports inventiveness in our visitors. She also highlighted the inventiveness of our Ambassador team, specifically their original activity ‘Contraptions in Action’, and the supplemental parts that are designed and created for the Museum's ‘Soundscapes’ activity. #sparklab #smithsonian #morrismuseum
