  • We owe much of our success to being plugged into purpose-driven communities, like RSA US. Since our founding in 2009, we've encouraged team members to join organizations, volunteer for good causes, serve on boards, lead committees and task forces — anything that makes the community better and supports their personal and progressional growth. Beyond just being a good group of people to be connected with, RSA has great mentorship programs, grant opportunities, and more. If you're not yet familiar with the group check them out and consider joining! You can also ping Gage Mitchell and he'll tell you about his experience as a fellow! Many thanks to RSA for returning the love!

This week's #FellowSpotlight is Gage Mitchell FRSA. Design has the power to bring about massive change. That power comes with a responsibility. Whether designing an object, a business, a community, or anything in between, Gage believes that both the process and the solution must aim to bring about a better world, for all. That’s why he founded the brand design agency, Modern Species, and the Brands for a Better World podcast – to help more #just, #healthy, and #regenerative brands grow through purpose-driven strategy, design, and community. Gage also serves as the Creative Director of the marketing collaborative, Kindship Group, as the Co-Chair of the Washington B Corp Collective, and as Co-Founder of a mission-driven brewery launching in 2024. Gage's work, thought leadership, and commitment to impact have garnered countless awards, features, interviews, and speaking engagements. Gage's passion lies at the intersection of #design, #business, #sustainability, and #food.

  • Last month we celebrated our 15th year of designing a better world!!! 🎉 This journey started with a simple question... "Instead of continuing to design pretty trash aimed at making rich people richer, can we use our superpowers for good?" That question sent us on a quest to find more sustainable materials, eliminate toxins, reduce waste, design more functional and lasting solutions, choose quality over quantity, consider the whole supply chain, etc. It instilled a philosophy of continuous improvement (where the name Modern Species comes from) as we seek to find better ways to run our business to ensure we're taking care of our team, our community, and the planet. It also encouraged us to define the type of companies we wanted to support through our work, and we decided to focus on growing impact-driven brands that are trying to build a more just, healthy, and regenerative world. 15 years... When we started on this path we had no idea where it would take us and it hasn't been an easy road, but we're incredibly grateful for all the opportunities we've gotten to play our small part in making this world a little better. Thanks for coming along on this journey with us! Shall we shoot for another 15 years?

Design a better world
  • When your entire business is dedicated to bringing about a more just, healthy, and regenerative world – every day is Earth Day! However, we decided to give the team the day off yesterday to honor Mother Earth anyway, because if she's taught us one thing, it's that rest is just as important as action. Happy belated Earth Day to our whole impact-driven community! Let's keep doing what we can to make our Mother happy so she continues letting us live under her roof a little while longer – because man, it's tough living out in space. I mean, where do you find fresh produce, am I right? Team Planet!

  • We're looking forward to connecting with our impact community! Who will we see at this event next week? (Jan 24, 12pm Pacific, Virtual)
