What is Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium? Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium is an employment assistance center created from a network of resources, providing FREE services to improve the region’s workforce. We partner with businesses to develop recruiting and retention strategies and we partner with job seekers to enhance education and career opportunities. Service area consists of Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle Counties in the State of Michigan. We are a proud partner of the American Job Center Network. Our Mission To enhance the productivity of people and business by providing a world-class workforce. One-Stop Model Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium intends to strengthen the system by simplifying for our customers a very complex network of resources. We do not expect our customers to self-diagnose what programs they may need, but present a model in which they can visit a center, speak with staff, and be directed to the appropriate resources to meet their needs.

Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium awards over $81k in training funding to 5 local companies to train 50 employees. The Going PRO Talent Fund is a competitive funding program that helps employers train, develop, and retain current and new employees. The fund offers fall and spring application cycles yearly. Employers can apply for up to $2,000 in training funding assistance per employee, and up to $3,500 per USDOL registered apprentice. Companies applied for funding this past fall with the help of Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium’s Business Solutions team. The following companies are being awarded funds to train their staff beginning in January: H.B. Carbide in Lewiston, Ossineke Industries in Ossineke, Razor Construction LLC in Frederic, RS Scott Associates in Alpena, and Ryba Marine Construction Co. in Cheboygan. “The Going PRO Talent Fund is a lifeline for local workers and employers, equipping individuals with critical skills while empowering businesses to grow and thrive,” states Jessica Topp, Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium Director. “It’s an investment in our workforce, our economy, and our community’s future.”
