Truckers needing background checks will face a little less red tape due to the passage of the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act. Passed by both the Senate and House, the bill is on the way to President Biden for signature. This common-sense bill allows workers to apply existing valid background checks to multiple TSA-managed credentialing programs, such as the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) programs. The Minnesota Trucking Association lobbied for passage of this bill in partnership with a coalition led by the American Trucking Associations. Passage of the bill was a key topic during the MTA’s 2024 Call on Washington, where the MTA educated its members of Congress on the need to reduce barriers for truckers. https://lnkd.in/g2bihbMP
Congress is finally putting an end to redundant background checks and duplicative fees! This ATA-backed bill, which passed today, will reform the outdated, inefficient processes that truck drivers undergo to obtain credentials they need to do their essential jobs. In its place will be a streamlined system that respects drivers’ time and money. Thank you to the Members of Congress who sponsored the bill and moved it across the finish line. https://lnkd.in/ebsGAGVR
