The Millennium Institute (MI) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization passionate about improving the welfare of individuals on every continent by working with stakeholders to meet the challenges of sustainable development. We help decision makers apply systems thinking to create a more sustainable, equitable, and peaceful global society. Our unique approach maps integrated policy options across the sustainability framework for environmental, social and economic benefits to society. We have assisted more than 40 nations and regional groups through the process of identifying goals and strategies that offer all people access to food, water, health care, education, and equal opportunities for women and men. SERVICES Our work typically fits into these categories: 1. Strategic Planning Consulting Through Country Strategic Planning Support, we work collaboratively with our clients to adapt existing strategies, or create new comprehensive strategies to achieve the SDGs. We guide our clients throughout the process of conceptualizing their key sustainability challenges, engaging with stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of challenges and desired outcomes, and formulating strategies to reach these outcomes. 2. Modeling and Research Our research team builds integrated System Dynamics models to conduct systemic analysis of a wide range of sustainability issues, including ecological agriculture and food security, green economy, conservation, health, population dynamics, and more. 3. Education Our sponsored workshops give policy makers and practitioners the ability to use systems modeling as a way of understanding of the complex and integrated nature of sustainability. Our workshops are customized to the clients’ needs and range from single or multi-day introductory workshops, as well as pre-designed advanced trainings for professionals who want more in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of System Dynamics-based integrated planning.

Last week, the Millennium Institute team gathered in Vienna for our annual meeting. The discussions focused on key strategic priorities, advancements in model development, strengthening partnerships, and expanding our education initiatives. The gathering served as a space to explore innovative pathways for integrating simulation into policy planning, enhancing our training programs, and providing innovative approaches to support sustainable development. It reinforced the importance of uniting diverse perspectives to create impactful, evidence-based solutions. We look forward to applying these insights as we continue to support global efforts toward achieving sustainable development goals.

The Millennium Institute recently concluded the second phase of a project in Angola, marked by the release of the report "Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals in Angola." The report provides a detailed analysis of how targeted investments in key sectors can drive sustainable development. The study examines the impact of two additional investment scenarios—2% and 5% of GDP annually from 2024 to 2030—on policies such as health and education, income transfers, and subsidies for fertilizers. The 2% scenario represents an approximate one-third increase over the 2024 national budget, while the 5% scenario reflects an increase of over two-thirds compared to the 2024 budget. Both scenarios highlight that strategic investments in these SDG accelerators can substantially advance the SDGs in Angola by 2030. The findings underscore the importance of adopting an Integrated National Financing Framework to mobilize public and private resources effectively. This project, developed in partnership with the Ministério do Planeamento, Ministério das Finanças de Angola , and the INE Angola - Instituto Nacional de Estatística, with the support of UNDP Angola, focuses on critical areas such as health, education, agriculture, social protection, and infrastructure, all aligned with the focus areas of Angola's National Development Plan (PDN) 2023-2027. The Millennium Institute has recently led a workshop in Egypt as part of the iSD-Egypt project, funded by USAID and implemented in partnership with DAI. The Model Stakeholder Consultation Workshop took place in collaboration with the Economic Governance Unit at the Institute of National Planning | معهد التخطيط القومى القومى. As part of this initiative, the Millennium Institute is developing a System Dynamics-based macroeconomic model to assess Egypt's progress towards achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). Participants from various ministries and academic institutions worked together to identify priority actions for advancing social, economic, and environmental progress. The workshop, facilitated by Cynthia Kreidy and Vadim Nuñez Pawlowsky , provided valuable insights to guide Egypt's future development strategies. This project is made possible by the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The contents of this project are the sole responsibility of MI and do not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the United States Government.
