About us
Midwest Water Stewards is a group of farmers and agribusinesses that are driven to protect and preserve the water resources that make our area one of the most valuable and viable regions for agriculture in the world. We care deeply for the natural resources we rely on, from soils to streams to aquifers. The group's vision is to collect extensive field data to construct data-driven models of surface water and groundwater resources for the purposes of stewardship, education, and the protection of individual water rights. https://midwestwaterstewards.com/

Todd Feenstra of Midwest Water Stewards found this spot next to the woods to get a bit of quiet refuge from the wind and snow during a December data download in Northern Michigan. Farmers are not irrigating crops this time of year, but the Midwest Water Stewards team continues to the work necessary to monitor water usage and levels across Michigan and northern Indiana. #agriculture #waterusage #waterconservation

Todd Feenstra and Jen Feenstra of Midwest Water Stewards (fourth from left in both rows) recently completed a yearlong program and became members of the third graduating class of the MI Ag CORE Leadership Program. They found the training to be very worthwhile and made some amazing connections in the agriculture industry. The group hadn’t even completed the program before starting to discuss gathering for a one-year reunion in November 2025! The MI Ag CORE (Communication, Organization, Relationships and Engagement) Leadership Program was developed and is supported by the Michigan Potato Industry Commission, the Michigan Wheat Program and the Michigan Soybean Committee to help develop agricultural leaders across the state. If you're in the ag business, this is something you should strongly consider taking part in. It was an absolutely great experience. #water #agriculture #waterconservation

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING! This was just another day at our beautiful office from earlier this fall! We are thankful for where we work and what we have the honor of doing. Thanks so much to the farmers across Michigan and northern Indiana who are working with us to be good stewards of the water resources in our area. We're grateful for you and hope you have an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving Day and holiday weekend.

Over the past six weeks or so, the Midwest Water Stewards team has been traveling around Michigan and northern Indiana to do our fall monitoring well data download. We have visited more than 200 wells already and have a few more to go! The weather has been extra beautiful this fall, which has made the job even more enjoyable than normal. There is some great scenery in the Midwest!

Environmentalists, regulators and farmers all want the same thing: a safe and healthy water supply. Thanks to the network of more than 230 farms across Michigan and Northern Indiana that have joined the Midwest Water Stewards network and have installed monitoring wells at their own expense to ensure that they are not having an adverse effect on the water supply.
