About us
Micromobility is a media property and community focusing on the future of small EVs. Through our newsletter, blog, podcast, and global event series, we provide news, insights, and analysis about how small electric vehicles—electric scooters, bikes, boards, buggies—are changing the way people and packages get from Point A to Point B in cities. We have held global conferences in San Francisco, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

Scenes from Micromobility Americas 2024: Among the big bike+ industry gatherings each year, this show is still one of my favorites. Recalling the very first by ring-leaders Horace Dediu and James Gross way back in 2019…oh how the industry, vehicles, and audience have evolved. Back then, a rainbow-colored assortment of dockless eScooter companies were taking over micro-trips in cities big and small, and most of the American public still had no idea what an e-bike was let alone why they would want one. MM exhibitors and speakers offered products and ideas that fell in that sweet spot between fringe and cutting edge. Fast-forward 5 yrs to 2024 – the show still retains this spirit and more. While the Expo floor can’t compare to the bustle of Sea Otter, titans of the now-massive e-bike world showed up including ‘the other Big 3’ (@Lectric, @Aventon, RadPower), alongside up-and-comers like Fly e-bike, Cake, Tempo which offers innovative e-bike insurance and theft-protection, and even a hydrogen-powered fuel cell bike from HyRyd. National and local government entities like DOT’s PHMSA also attend. A particularly welcome addition for me was inclusion this year of micromobility’s first cousin: golf carts and low speed EVs (cleverly coined ‘Minimobility’ by McKinsey) courtesy of the large multi-store retailer Cart Mart. They and the organizers probably recognize that e-bikes and golf carts (or Low-speed Electric Vehicles) have overlapping fan base, dealer base, and ride similar tech and social trends. Some memorable panel sessions centered around the merits of D2C vs. Brick&Mortar sales approach, reshoring production to the U.S., battery safety, and generally how to survive ’25. As pointed out in the organizers’ updated Micromobility Handbook, one of the finest visual displays of graphical data I’ve ever seen and treasure trove of transportation insights, we are now most certainly in the uncomfortable period of rationalization and consolidation – “not all of us will survive”. Thanks to Horace, James, & all the staff of Micromobility Americas for the excellent networking, catching up with old friends, and precious chance to throw legs over / around / on new exciting products. The move to SoCal was smart – it’s both the epicenter of the U.S. micromobility industry and what’s "slay” in the world. Watch what the high-schoolers are riding there for a cue to what’s hot nationwide in 2-3 years.
