MaineHealth Behavioral Health (formerly Maine Behavioral Healthcare) is the result of a merger of some of the most highly respected and well-established behavioral healthcare organizations in the state. They include the formerly-named Community Counseling Center, Counseling Services, Inc., Mid-Coast Mental Health Center, and Spring Harbor Community Services, as well as Spring Harbor Hospital, a division of Maine Behavioral Healthcare. Since 2018 Dr. Linda Durst has been a champion of providing quality behavioral health services to our patients, families, and communities. At the end of the year, she will be leaving us and moving to Connecticut to be closer to family. She has put her heart into her roles as Chief Medical Officer at MaineHealth Behavioral Health and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry MaineHealth Maine Medical Center - Portland. While her contributions since joining MaineHealth in 2018 are many, Dr. Durst leaves a legacy of groundbreaking work in the area of suicide prevention and care. As the executive champion of the MHBH Zero Suicide initiative, she led a team to implement the framework of best practice methods for screening and assessment of suicide. Upon reflection of her time with us, Dr. Durst had this to say: “I am grateful to have been a part of the great transformation of behavioral health services both within MHBH and as part of the MaineHealth system. We’ve worked tirelessly to improve access and deliver person-centered, quality care to the patients we serve. This journey has been rewarding and heartening and I know it will continue with the many talented people I am proud to call colleagues and friends in this organization.” Best wishes to Dr. Durst on this next chapter in her life!
