I'm looking forward to a renaissance in the trades where we've moved some power tools to partially autonomous, hands-free robotics tools. - Andra Keay, Robotics have gotten to the point where the actuation, the sophistication of motion, that's pretty good. The shortcoming is in how it connects to the human being. HCI, the human-computer interaction that has to be resolved, and that's not going to be resolved by the same people who figured out how the actuation works. - Scott Summit Look at the Roomba. Our goal was to use what VR and AR do very, very well, which is entice you and seduce you and give you stickiness and fun with what you really need, which is fitness and health and activity. - Scott Summit A fiddle and a violin are the same instrument. Robotics is the technology of the 21st century, that I believe is going to have the biggest lasting impact. One of the most important things about asynchronous work is creating the time and space to be able to do it. At Twitter, perch-time was an hour cleared from the calendar every day. It gave us that time and space too to really focus - Tracy Hawkins Some teams did no meetings Fridays which also allowed us to work, clear the decks before the weekend, go in prepped and organized for the next week. - Tracy Hawkins ---- Async work takes intentional effort to define expectations and protocols.  Good news, more work get's done.  Fewer interruptions, flow breaks, and distractions. Q - Is explainable AI even possible? - Jeff Frick  A - I think that we have some chance of doing that. Is it going to be 100%? No. Because algorithms learn, and keep evolving. Create an ecosystem of places where people can do their best work because we know that different activities happen better in different places - Adrienne Rowe Workplace doesn't create management challenges, it reveals them. If you didn't know how to measure the quality of work before, the new workplace isn't going to help you do that. ----- Adrienne has run workplace for a number of very large, traditional, institutions, with a heavy onsite requirement from defense manufacturing to the happiest place on earth. She's been working on workplace, since before workplace was cool. The time for lazy management has passed. Start defining 'the best work of their careers' and get people after it, provide the ecosystem of environments to support various 'activities'. Generic, average, open floor plan, isn't going to cut it anymore. Get intentional.
