I build tech communities | ex-google, meta | partner at next wave nyc (investing in pre-seed + seed)

We hosted our final tech founder breakfast of 2024 yesterday with Rho. 30+ founders and CEOs came out... including the founder of a $1B, publicly traded company. I can't believe we hosted 100+ events for 20,000+ people in 6 cities this year. I'm grateful for my team, our partners, and everyone who supported the community. I love you all.

Chief of Staff to Andrew Yeung

Thank you to all the friends who joined us for our final NYC Tech Dinner of 2024 this week! This one felt extra special as our team was simultaneously operating in both NYC and Chicago that night. We’re thrilled to begin planning for 2025, which will include even more dinners and some exciting new launches (stay tuned)! A huge shoutout to Ivor and Abe for their partnership, which made this dinner amazing. Some dinner highlights: 1. We welcomed a founder on their first day as a New Yorker. 2. We celebrated another founder’s final dinner before embarking on their journey as a digital nomad. 3. One founder shared that we helped her secure her first round of funding. Hope to see you at one of our 2025 dinner tables :) #NYCTech CC: Andrew Yeung

What an incredible evening at the Founder Dinner hosted by the legendary Andrew Yeung! The room was filled with brilliant minds, authentic conversations, and a shared passion for innovation and impact. It’s rare to find spaces where founders can truly connect, share stories, and exchange ideas in such a meaningful way. The energy in the room reminded me why building and growing a community is so important—not just for the businesses we create, but for the relationships that sustain us through this journey. Thank you, Andrew, for bringing together such a phenomenal group of people. It’s events like these that make the founder experience truly unforgettable. To many more dinners, connections, and collaborations! #FounderLife #Networking #CommunityBuilding #Innovation #Entrepreneurship

I build tech communities | ex-google, meta | partner at next wave nyc (investing in pre-seed + seed)

I recently spoke to Columbia Business School students about tech careers, personal branding, and entrepreneurship. Here's a summary of what I shared: 1. Do more unscalable things earlier in your career. When you're just starting, time is your greatest asset. Take advantage of it by trading your time to get experience, learn skills, and build relationships. 2. The most effective way to build professional relationships is to provide value on day 1. Make a habit of asking, "How can I help?". Better yet, figure out how you can help without asking someone directly, then do it. 3. Master the art of capturing attention. The best entrepreneurs and builders I've met have an uncanny ability to quickly create remarkable things that generate attention. By learning how to get eyeballs, you solve the most critical problem for any business - the ability to reach customers. 4. It's often easier to create a room than to try and get into one. Instead of trying to get into the room with influential people and decision-makers, ask yourself, "What would motivate them to come to me?" and create the room yourself. It'll often take the same (if not less) amount of effort. 5. The most impactful thing I did for my business was to create more time for uninterrupted, deep work. From my experience at both large, 100,000+ enterprises and tiny, 10-person startups, I've learned that 90% of meetings can be eliminated without impact. Kill your meetings to get back your time for creative work. 6. Your reputation and personal brand add a premium to everything. A strong reputation provides you and your business with a halo effect - allowing you to command a premium on your compensation. Don't build a personal brand for the sake of building one, but also don't be afraid to share your achievements and learnings with the world. Thank you to Brendan Burns for having me!
