"It started with a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project at Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) College of Engineering, focused on using advanced technologies to develop a more cost-effective way to manufacture the HIV/AIDS therapy, nevirapine. In 2017, additional funding from the Gates Foundation allowed for the university to officially establish the Medicines for All Institute (M4ALL) and apply its optimized active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) development platform to a broader array of lifesaving vaccines and treatments." Medicines for All Institute is proud to be a part of the changing landscape of the State of Virginia and all of the work being done to improve access to medicines globally.

About us
The Medicines for All Institute, operating under the auspices of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Engineering, has developed an innovative model that reduces the cost of manufacturing treatments, such as HIV/AIDS therapies, by accelerating the creation of more efficient ways of synthesizing the active pharmaceutical ingredients in the medications. With funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Institute’s impact expands well beyond HIV/AIDS, as the process that reduces the cost per kilogram of specific drug targets can be applied to other medicines as well. While meeting an urgent health care need today, the Medicines for All Institute also signals dramatic change in future pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies.

M4ALL is proud to contribute to the USAID-funded PQM+ program and to partner with US Pharmacopeia and Chemical Process Technologies on this important project to make #TB treatment more accessible. We have had the privilege of working on low-cost processes for several high-priority TB drugs and will continue to support the #TB community to increase access to life saving medicines. https://lnkd.in/gUnjkRmW #WorldTBDay #YesWeCan #endTB
The USAID-funded PQM+ program is partnering with Chemical Process Technologies Process Technologies in #SouthAfrica for the technology transfer of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) rifapentine, a drug that treats and prevents #TB. This will add local manufacturing capacity to the African market, making TB treatment more accessible and affordable. PQM+ worked with Virginia Common Wealth University to support development of a more efficient and cost-effective approach to synthesizing and manufacturing the rifapentine API. The program is also partners with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority to strengthen capacity for API review and inspection.
