We accelerate adoption of startup solutions to local public challenges to drive equitable, sustainable economic growth
About us
The Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, Inc. (“MDIA”) is a nonprofit that works to strengthen the relationship between institutions, including local government, and technology companies with innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for Miami-Dade county residents. Founded as an outcome of a collaboration with Miami-Dade County and key technology leaders, MDIA launched in 2023 with an equal match of private, public and philanthropic funding from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Citadel Founder and CEO, Ken Griffin, and Miami-Dade County. We de-risk capital investments as well as accelerate the discovery and commercialization of technologies through our Public Innovation Challenge Program, which connects private innovators to the public sector through strategic investments and a test-and-validate process designed to help companies successfully deliver market-ready solutions along with accompanying jobs in Miami-Dade County. Our mission is to scale innovative solutions for people most affected by critical public challenges, improve economic and social outcomes, and make Miami-Dade County a world-class capital for high growth technology companies.

When innovation outpaces regulation, how can advanced technologies thrive in tackling climate challenges? Regulatory sandboxes create flexible spaces to test and scale solutions, with proven success in sectors like sustainable electricity and EV charging. In South Florida, a climate tech policy sandbox could unlock transformative change by addressing barriers and accelerating deployment through federal partnerships and best practices. #Miamidadeinnovationauthority #Miamidadecounty #MiamiGovernment #TechInnovation #News

Global investment in climate tech has surpassed $632 billion, setting the stage for an unprecedented wave of innovation and opportunity. The U.S. Department of Defense alone is committing $3.6 billion to resilience infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing energy and water systems. Other federal agencies have earmarked $9.5 billion in investment mandates, further accelerating the growth of this critical sector. Emerging markets are taking note and positioning themselves to compete in this transformative space, driven by both public and private funding. With these figures in mind, the question isn’t if climate tech will reshape industries; it’s how quickly. #MiamiDadeInnovationAuthority #MiamiDadeCounty #MiamiGovernment #ClimateTech #News
