44 years ago, MGH Fund donor Virginia Forster was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and became the first Mass General patient to participate in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trials. "I consider myself a poster child—or one of many—for Mass General being the right place when a baffling health issue arises," she says. Now, Virginia is a donor to the MGH Fund, helping to ensure continued excellence in patient care and medical research at Mass General. A gift to the MGH Fund from donors like Virginia can have infinite possibilities–from applying new approaches in prevention and detection to catching illness before it progresses to making discoveries that change the face of medicine. Make your gift to the MGH Fund before December 31, and it will be matched dollar-for-dollar. http://spklr.io/6043Ln1H #MassGeneralGiving

To address disparities in cardiovascular care, doctors at Mass General have launched heart health clinics in communities surrounding Boston to meet patients where they live. “We need to take our mission—to improve the health of the communities we serve—quite literally,” says Oyere Onuma, MD, director of Mass General’s Global Cardiovascular Health Program and associate director of Cardiology Diversity and Health Equity. “By moving the excellence we’re known for into the communities that need it most, we can start to address and solve these pressing cardiac issues.” http://spklr.io/6043LVCL #MassGeneralGiving

Every Christmas Eve for the past 12 years, Erika Rosato, RN, one of our incredible nurse leaders, has brought the true spirit of the holidays to life. Together with her family, she bakes hundreds of cookies to thank the hardworking staff who care for our patients year-round. This heartfelt tradition started in the Yawkey 8 Infusion area and the Mass General Cancer Center Termeer Center, where she was a nurse director, with 400 cookies shared among staff and patients. As her role grew to include additional clinics and service lines, the tradition evolved to focus on staff and cancer patients receiving infusions on Christmas Eve and a production of over 1,000 cookies. What makes this even more special? Her three sons have been part of the tradition since they were just 3, 5 and 8 years old! Now 15, 18 and 20, they continue to join her in spreading holiday cheer—learning the value of giving back along the way. We are inspired by this incredible act of kindness that brightens the holidays for so many. Thank you for your dedication to our team and your commitment to creating moments of joy during the season!
