Andrea Weeks, associate professor of Biology, contributed to identifying a 1,000-year-old seedling linked to the biblical myrrh tree (Commiphora). Using comparative genetic techniques and National Science Foundation (NSF) funded data, Weeks and her team unraveled new insights into ancient plant species and biodiversity. While the seed’s exact species remains unknown, this work underscores the importance of interdisciplinary research in uncovering our natural history and advancing biodiversity studies. Director, Center for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (CMAI) and Professor at George Mason University
On December 9, 2024, I gave my first talk at the US Capitol Hill on "Digital Twins, Optimization and Healthcare". Thank you Center for Telehealth and eHealth Law (CTeL) for inviting me and putting together a fantastic program. It was amazing to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity from the attendees. This has been in the making for a while with our group's research support from National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Office of Naval Research, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Thanks to many of my collaborators all over the world on this and related topics, especially Prof. Rainald Lohner and Prof. Juan Cebral (George Mason University), Prof. Roland Wüchner (Technical University of Munich), Dr. Drew P. Kouri and Dr. Denis Ridzal (Sandia National Laboratories), Facundo Airaudo (George Mason University), Talhah Ansari and Dr. Suneth Warnakulasuriya (Technical University of Munich), Dr. Ihar Antonau (Technische Universität Braunschweig), Dr. Akwum Onwunta (Lehigh University), Dr. Sergey Dolgov (University of Bath), Dr. Thomas Surowiec (Simula Research Laboratory), Prof. Enrique Zuazua Iriondo (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg), and many more ... Thanks also to Prof. Karen Willcox for bringing this topic to everyone's attention and paving the way forward for everyone. George Mason University Fairfax, Virginia
