We're excited to support Centrus Energy Corp. in this latest award from the Department of Energy to domestically produce low-enriched uranium fuel for today's nuclear power plants. We are proud to work with Centrus Energy Corp. to build domestic capabilities to produce fuel for the nuclear plants of today, and tomorrow!
Centrus, via a subsidiary, has been selected by the Office of Nuclear Energy | U.S. Department of Energy under a program aimed at stimulating domestic production of Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) for our existing fleet of #nuclear reactors. The company has now been selected for all three of the recent solicitations issued by the Department as part of a broad effort to scale up America’s uranium enrichment capacity -- including High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (#HALEU) as well as #LEU. There are several award winners, and the ultimate dollar value of these awards – and the scale of the expansion they can support – will depend upon the task orders that Centrus is subsequently issued under the contracts. To date, Congress has approved more than $3.4 billion that can be used for these awards, and we believe that have a strong case to make as we compete for the funding in the next stages of the program. Centrus is the only American-owned company that enriches uranium today and the only one that manufacturers our centrifuges in the United States. We believe that U.S. taxpayer dollars should stay in the United States -- investing in American technology, built by American workers. More on the announcement below: https://lnkd.in/e2RdUbPN

Did you know December 2 was World Nuclear Energy Day? The day marks both the date of the first self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction (at Chicago Pile-1 in 1942) and the launch of the first commercial-scale power reactor (in Shippingport, PA in 1957). At L&A, we're excited to help the the next generation of nuclear power reach critical mass through our work supporting the production of high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel with Centrus Energy Corp. and other projects.
